Le Pilage bags...tell me what you think

Have been lurking on the MNV thread where there was mention of the above. Didn't like to interrupt them, but I think it might just be the answer to my problem of trying to find a smart bag I can hoik up on my shoulder during holidays. I need something not too heavy which is big enough to fit a bottle of water, guidebook a fold up waterproof, not rucksack -ish though. Leather handles are a must. Before I splash out please tell me your experiences or suggestions for alternatives.

They're quite ... Mumsy aren't they?

Legologgo · 11/04/2014 06:34

They're just like these boden leather ones. But not leather. And almost the same price m.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Accessories/Bags-Wallets/AM206/Womens-Palermo-Tote.html

I started one of these threads a few months ago as I couldn't decide between Le Pilage or Vanessa BrunonCabas. Well I finally went to the Longchamp shop on Weds and bought the large shopper in black. Boring colour I know but I will use it lots. In fact I used it yesterday, put all my dc fleeces in them, kindle, purse etc, good comfy straps, fits loads and really light to carry. I will also be using it on my hols too. Highly recommended.

I've got two and I love them.

The biggest size with the small handles is a perfect weekend bag and I currently use it as my swimbag.

The biggest shopper with the long handles is being used for all sorts of things but is especially great for lugging around baby and toddler stuff.

I can't get with the tan detailing...it just doesn't look right. And I love tan. My concern would also be in a couple of months everyone will have them where I live in the middle class sticks. They are so practical, and relatively cheap for a branded good...they'll be a mummy classic in no time.

Stokey · 11/04/2014 08:16

I think they are already a classic - very popular on the continnent btu not only Mums, think they get used a lot by students too as book bags.

Probably not the thing to go for if you want to stand out from the crowd, but as an easy to use, chuck all your kids stuff in and not worry about it getting trashed bag, they're pretty good.

Legologgo · 11/04/2014 08:16

They are mumsy already. The tan is nicht gut

I do like that Boden one in yellow Lego, have you got it? & if so, what's the verdict?

FreeButtonBee · 11/04/2014 08:53

I have one like this www.anyahindmarch.com/View-All/Market-tote/Yellow-5050925820813.html?start=12

It's 95 which is expensive but as I say, I've had it 4 years of almost dailyy use (inc as changing bag for my twins) and it is still perfect. Certainly no holes in the corners...

Legologgo · 11/04/2014 09:21

nah - I dont spend much on bags

disposable here

cressetmama · 11/04/2014 11:48

Herve Chapellier do some similar bags in the same nylon material, but a heavier gauge, and in some very good colour combinations. A little more expensive (though not too much) but not quite so mumsy or so ubiquitous! If you don't want the tan fittings, and worry about having the same as everyone you know, they are an excellent alternative.
