Ooh I'd not heard of these before but look interesting!

We have the Sonicare Airflosser. I think it's really good, I get food stuck in one particular gap in my teeth and this will get it out when regular floss doesn't

treaclesoda · 08/04/2014 20:05

is it a jet of water? I love the sound of it but I've got sensitive teeth and I fear it might be agony!

dottyaboutstripes · 08/04/2014 20:12

Ours is like a big PUFF which dispenses some mouthwash. It just feels like air though

MiloSimpson · 08/04/2014 20:21

Yes, I've had a couple of different ones over the years - I like them but speaking to dentist ex, he says that they're no better than using floss/inter-dental sticks.

They are more fun in my opinion.

The issue I had was that the water 'tank' and plastic tube inside ended up going moldy ie you can't get either of them completely dry.

I'm interested in one of these. Do you swallow the water as it jets into your mouth or let it run out? Sounds a bit messy to me.

Ilovecoodomol · 09/04/2014 16:00

I used to have a Waterpik, I do floss and rinse but my mouth was so much fresher after using this. My cordless one stopped working after a few months though and I did miss it, but I see they have other designs now that may be better.

treaclesoda · 09/04/2014 17:24

so it's like a teeny tiny power hose for your mouth?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 09/04/2014 18:33

I have a cheap one from Argos (around £30 -40) its great, I brush with my mega super panasonic toothbrush and sometimes there are still bits flushed out after. It just feels fresh and lovely. tbh my cheap one is better than the £65 version DH bought me for xmas that packed up after a month and was a bit meh anyway.

I kept spraying the bathroom mirror - messy things!

TheGruffalo2 · 10/04/2014 10:33

OK, reporting back. I bought a Waterpik one. Last night was a disaster. Water everywhere, including up my nose. This morning was much better and I think I'm getting the hang of dribbling it out into the sink. (Sorry if TMI!). I think there is a knack in how to reach all the teeth and angling towards the gaps between teeth, so I have a way to go in doing it in the most effective and mess-free way.

It has made my teeth feel a lot cleaner and the surfaces feel more polished. I was amazed at how quick it was and that it really got into the areas between teeth. Whether my dentist is impressed at my next check up we will wait to see (I was told off for not flossing well enough Blush)

I have a sonicare, thought it was good but just got a waterpik which is way better imo.

My gums are healthier already :o
It's also cheaper!

Suzannewithaplan · 10/04/2014 12:14

You need to lean over the sink not look in the mirror and keep mouth mostly closed

If prefer to rinse first then brush, theory being that brushing could drive food particles into gums

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/04/2014 12:15

I have the Kitty waterjet hydrofloss for my DS (he has fixed braces)
It works well, but he's a messy little tyke and we need to have it near a power point which is a pain (none in bathroom).

It's worth the effort IMO

My dental hygienist reckons they're totally unnecessary/of no benefit.

schmalex · 12/10/2015 21:00

I love mine. I've got retainer wires behind my teeth so I can't use normal floss. It's much easier than floss on back teeth too.

Dollyemi · 12/10/2015 21:05

I love mine, can either put water or mouthwash in it (sonicare). I think they're good if you're too lazy (or just forget) to floss.

Shallishanti · 12/10/2015 22:18

I had one, used it for 3 months, the dentist said my gums were WORSE than when I had been using interdental brushes, so save your money

Shallishanti · 12/10/2015 22:19

but if anyone can suggest a use for an unwanted waterflosser please tell me

liza28US · 09/01/2019 17:08

LOL. Ofc it's a good idead to buy a water flosser. It cleans your mouth in 3-4 minutes of using it and there won't be a horrible smell next morning. It doesn't even cost a lot, my boy uses it everyday and he is happy with how it is easy.
I'm using Panasonic EW-DJ10-A. Would recommend you it, has no minuses. Check more about it here, if you want - geeklah.com/best-water-flosser.html
