I've ditched silicones, sulphates etc and am looking for reassurance that soon my hair will stop looking dull and lank and will suddenly start looking fabulously healthy..! I'm also trying to lay off the straighteners in an effort to give it a break all round.

Any words of encouragement? ?!

Sorry it hasn't worked out for you OP. My scalp has been more flakey with Naked products too, so I'm looking for an alternative, was a bit surprised that the rainforest conditioner from body shop contains sulphates - their shampoo is fine though but I have been looking for an alternative to Boots Naked. Have changed to Spenspa Hand soap too, I can't believe the difference going sls free has made to a lifelong struggle with eczema, I just wish I'd discovered it sooner, flakey scalp or not!

I now am honestly not sure why I did it - part of my constant battle against frizz, but I guess my hair is not curly enough for the whole curly girl thing..cote dazur, what ty9e of hair do you have? If we're eimilar, recommendations wo6ld be good

I would have said the same thing as you before going to get my hair done. My hair was becoming much less curly, and it was lank, and just Bleurgh. But I am pleased I didn't give up. Whereabouts in the country are you? There may be another curly hair expert somewhere closer than Birmingham?

Scarletohello · 02/05/2014 15:19

Also how are you drying your hair and what products do you use? Sorry it's not working for you! :(

MyrtleDove · 02/05/2014 15:50

daimbardiva maybe try afro hair care? Even if you don't have afro hair, they're usually sls-free and so good for beating frizz. I love my Palmers shampoo.

TheDayOfMyDoctor · 02/05/2014 15:51

OP, are you still using the rainforest range? I know it works well for a lot of people but my hair was awful when I tried it. I've been using the jessicurl range for a couple of years which made a huge difference to my hair.

Scarletohello · 02/05/2014 15:55

Also have you tried coconut oil as a deep conditioner?

CoteDAzur · 02/05/2014 16:48

daim - My hair is about the same as in this photo, but slightly shorter. It gets curlier & forms defined locks if I apply this as I described below & let it dry on its own. Once it's almost or completely dry, I apply a tiny bit of this.

Thank you all for your replies. Yes I was using the rainforest range - really feel it dried out and dulled my hair horribly. After two washes w the Organix ketatin shampoo it feels much, much softer and looks much shinier so will stick w it for a bit. I use label m leave in conditioner w a bit of body shop beautifying oil mixed in and not much else products wise. I have a real frizz halo , partly from hair regrowing after post preg haur lloss

Sorry also meant to say that I leave it to dry naturally, sometimes twisting the ends to encourage a defined curl, but I have to admit I've resorted to blowdrying and straightening again a couple of times and the relief has been palpable - it looks SO much better. cote dazur my hair is shoulder length but otherwise potentially similar to that if I can ever get to grips with it!!! What shampoo and conditioner do you use?

Further update...I have discovered, having finally plucked up the courage to try washing with conditioner only, that this does WONDERS for my hair! I can't believe the difference it makes frizz and curl definition-wise. Wahey, I got there in the end...just shows it really is a matter of trial and error to find what suits your hair. Was certainly a trial getting to this stage though!!!!

I just tried a diluted apple-cider vinegar rinse before a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, for the first time in weeks (didn't want to try the vinegar too soon after my last highlights, but my scalp clearly wanted to get rid of the sticky crap the hairdresser sold me) oh my God!! It's soft, shiny, and even the flick at the bottom of my hair has come back after my last cut. I thought that was lost forever.
