I say SUperga. My friend says SuPERga (with an Italian accent). This is a most pressing issue.

super gah

peasandlove · 06/04/2014 22:59

Yes i say super normally ( in a kiwi accent)

CointreauVersial · 06/04/2014 23:21

I say SUper-gah, but as I'm not Italian I'm quite prepared to believe that isn't right but who cares

ImRonBurgandy · 07/04/2014 06:29

I don't care.... But she said to me "have you heard of suPERrrrrrga" and it sounded so lovely and exotic for a moment I hadn't. Then I realised what she meant and laughed.

I say it like your friend.....with a Scottish accent

DrankSangriaInThePark · 07/04/2014 08:20

Your friend is right, because they are Italian.

SoopERga.

There's a Superga Street in the town I live in. I used, for some odd expat reason, be convinced there had once been an S on the end and it was called Supergas street.

Then I noticed the shoes. Which are v comfy btw. And cheap on Italian ebay!

WowOoo · 07/04/2014 10:09

I put the stress on the PER bit. Only because my friend who always seems to know these things said it that way.

HyvaPaiva · 07/04/2014 10:16

Your friend is right. I think what throws English speakers is that the first five letters spell an English word so we go, 'must be Super Ga'. It's more like Su Perga, if you see past what looks like the word 'super'.

FrugalFashionista · 07/04/2014 11:29

I think the shoes got their name from a hill in Turin and with my accented non-native Italian su-perga really makes sense. Latin is not my forte but it sounds a bit like it's derived from a verb meaning 'to reign over' or 'stand out'.

ImRonBurgandy · 07/04/2014 11:43

Hyva - that's exactly it! I see the Super and (not knowing the brand's background) say it like that. Thank you all!
