Foaming facial wash

I'm coming to the end of my Clarins facial wash, which I love. But it's a bit pricey.

Do you have a recommendation for a creamy facial wash that's suitable for ageing, combination skin?

this one by L'Oreal. Not drying at all, but foamy enough to feel clean after. I also love the toner from that range. I swapped to this from The clarins foaming wash (and the lancome toner). I think this is gentler actually.

Virgin vie (or is it just Vie now?!) did a fab mattifying one sorry I can't do links but highly recomend it.

bar of soap.
honestly.

Financeprincess · 06/04/2014 23:11

I second the L'Oreal recommendation. Gentle and effective.

use olay daily face cloths in sensitive
you wet them with warm water they foam up slightly
you use all over face and rinse with tepid water

brilliant, love them

A lovely poster here recommended African black soap on a thread I was on a few weeks ago. It's awesome - really gentle, not at all drying, really good value and smells gorgeous. You can buy it on Amazon. I wrapped it in a face cloth to put in my gym bag and it stained the cloth though Grin

La Roche Posay effaclear is the best I've used.

This is all crazy talk!

Anything that foams really dries your skin

Cleanse! Use a balm or oil or cream. Massage into dry skin then rinse off with a flannel and warm water.

Thanks for the reccs.

I do cleanse at night, but prefer a wash off cleanser in the shower in the morning. The Clarins one isn't drying at all, but as I said it's pricey.
The L'Oreal one sounds great, I'll try that first.

stone I used to always cleanse with a balm and clean it off with a cloth but no matter what brand I tried, if I used it morning and evening my skin got dry, flakey, red and irritated and no amount of moisturiser helped.

Since switching to soap once a day my skin has been much less itchy, tight and sore.

I have tried a few (Simple, Innoxa, Clinique, Neutrogena) and I go back to the Clarins cottonseed one every time. The others I find too drying. The Clarins one lasts for ages as you use way less than the cheaper brands so I think in the long run its not that much more expensive.

Dumpylump · 07/04/2014 09:01

I use Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel - it is £££ though, but it does last forever because you just need such a small amount, particularly if using a Clarisonic with it.
Seriously - two bottles a year! So it doesn't work out so expensive after all Smile

WowOoo · 07/04/2014 10:11

Origins Checks and Balances is lovely.

You only need a tiny bit and it lasts for ages. It makes my skin feel lovely and clean and smooth, but never dry.

Have a Kiehls one that is nice but seems to leave my skin so dry.

Philoslothy · 07/04/2014 10:22

Foaming cleansers IME strip your skin, I tried an Estée Lauder one and it was awful. Left my skin so tight and uncomfortably dry.

I ran out of my usual cleansing balm and could not get any more immediately so tried this one from Boots from the Champneys range and it is great and leaves your skin beautifully cleansed but moistuised. A real budget buy and often on a 3 for a two as well.

FrugalFashionista · 07/04/2014 10:44

Foaming cleansers can be great but sometimes the foaming agent (often SLS/SLES) is too effective and removes too much oil which can hurt your skin.

I think I cleansed my skin too aggressively last year and got perioral eczema. OP is doing well so it's unlikely to cause problems for her but if anyone here has tricky skin, other options may be worth pursuing.

I've had great results with simple castile soap and micellar water. It's weird because I thought soap would be too drying but it's just right!
