I would like a rucksack.

I feel bad saying that on S&B. Not a hiking type outdoorsy rucksack, though. I'm on crutches and need to be able to carry stuff. I have an accessorize one but it's a bit tatty.

Budget is limitless (within reason) if it cheers me up and does the job. The cheaper the better though.

Kanken comes in lots of colours and you can fit a lot in.

Healthy Back Bag again lots of colours, different sizes, very comfortable (more so, in my opinion, than Kanken)

Eastpak lots of different size, fabric, colour and pattern options

ChameleonCircuit · 01/04/2014 21:27

I'm lusting after a Kanken. They have 20% off this week with code APRIL20.

OldRoan · 01/04/2014 21:59

I quite like the Kanken ones, but I think they are a bit bigger than I need. I only need to be able to put a few bits in it really to go from room to room - am not secure enough to be venturing outside for work yet.

DP has an Eastpak, I can't bring myself to match him .

I've got a healthy back bag, and find it incredibly convenient -- hold a lot, very well designed with pockets to put things in both inside and out, weight is well distributed, small size holds much more than you think it might, it swings round to the front when you want to get stuff out ... I do have a kanken but I very rarely use it and in fact it's quite uncomfortable when there's a lot of stuff in it.

FrugalFashionista · 01/04/2014 22:25

I like a rucksack for travel and my current favorite is a dark denim Herschel. Lots of other Herschels on eBay, including floral / polka dot / camo pattern, and they are much better quality than EastPaks. KÃ¥nken is what we wore to junior high so not going to do that again. Light bag-like rucksacks will be a major trend this year so you might find what you need on the high street.

Lovely khaki or navy ones on Ally Capellino website. Expensive but good quality. She also holds sample sales in London twice a year (next one in May, date TBC) where prices often 50% off.

Botanicbaby · 02/04/2014 00:20

sorry to say something negative but in my experience, I think the kanken ones are truly awful and would not recommend them at all. When mine arrived it was a lot smaller than I had expected but worse than that, I hate the cheap fabric/stitching and crappy zip. The price is in no way justified, mine was 50 quid and I think it was a huge waste of money.

I've actually got a better quality (stitching, fabric) rucksack for a fraction of the price of a Kanken at TK maxx. No idea what brand it is.

HopelessDei · 02/04/2014 03:36

I use a canvas Longchamp Le Pliage one. How much do you need to carry? It's great for day to day. About 60 quid I think. Lovely colours. I think they do a posher leather one.

OldRoan · 02/04/2014 07:02

I was looking at the pliage the other day - would it take an ipad?

Now I have fallen in love with a totally impractical (for now) handbag from Ally Capellino Hmm.

This?

Bags of bags

HopelessDei · 02/04/2014 16:30

Yes an iPad will just fit.

QueenofallIsee · 02/04/2014 16:38

I bought a Marc by Marc Jacobs one from Net a Porter..I love it, its funky and practical

Pollysboo · 02/04/2014 21:31

I've been using a Barbour rucksack for several years. It has been used for picnics (carrying heavy flasks), weekends away filled with undies, make up and hair dryer, and generally as a large handbag when wearing appropriate clothing (jeans, walking boots--you know- the sporty look). I love my rucksack which was expensive but I have used it many times over the last ten years or more. It has proved to be worth every penny for durability and style.

AmberNectarine · 02/04/2014 21:33

I have a Kanken, there are a few sizes. I absolutely LOVE it. Think I will get a mini one.

cloudskitchen · 02/04/2014 21:47

I have a healthy back bag. I like the fact that I don't have to take it off to get stuff put. Just slide it around the front. That might be handy on crutches :)

Laska42 · 02/04/2014 21:49

TKmaxx (mail order?)
What about this?
They have one in in this print in my local TKmaxx (and im tempted!))

here is a page with more

OldRoan · 06/04/2014 20:17

Thanks everyone - have gone for a pliage to add to my Longchamp stash.

Spent a while lusting after a Kate Spade one, but couldn't face the faff of ordering over the phone and couldn't find a UK website...

Saurus72 · 06/04/2014 20:37

oldroan does the one you have feel substantial? I'm really tempted by the Le Pliage on in blue-purple...

OldRoan · 06/04/2014 20:57

I wouldn't say substantial... It feels about as able to cope with weight as a normal pliage, maybe a bit less. I wouldn't put an iPad in it and spend a day shopping (but I would with a normal bag).

Not very helpful, sorry!

if you are carrying any more than a tiny weight in the bag it should have a hip belt, which transfers the weight there rather than to the shoulders.

I know you said you aren't going hiking, but if you have one injury you don't need more!

OldRoan · 06/04/2014 21:13

Thanks, I'll probably have to get something more sensible when back at work but for now it is only to carry eg. Phone/book/iPad from room to room.

You're right though, I don't want to screw up any more body parts!
