De-colourising hair at home.

I have a red permanent dye and I want to go mid brown. How safe is it to do it at home? I've seen in boots and Superdrug semi-permanent decolourisers (is that what they're called?) but what does it mean?

What product should I buy to get rid if the red?

I've used this before and it has worked quite well. It does turn your hair a bit of an odd colour so it's best to have a light dye to stick on the next day (and no reason to leave the house that day). Deep condition your hair to within an inch of it's life and open all the windows as you're doing it because it stinks of rotten egg

Oh I bought that today , haven't used it yet but my sdd who is training in hair dressing said it works well.

I've used it , i was advised by someone to make sure you rinse your hair loads and loads ..i was under shower for ages .
It worked really well for me and I quite liked the colour it left my hair.

How long ago did you dye it red, as red fades very quickly, well mine does, maybe I'm using the wrong stuff!

I've used colour B4, wear ear plugs as you have to rinse loads and I got loads of water in my ears. Read the instruction 3x, important to follow them. It works.

it fades quickly but the faded red is a bugger to get rid off. for the last year I've been putting a dark purple on it and the red still comes through

Vit C mixed with shampoo, google it, its really good

Where would I get vit C and what seems large quantities?!

I got vitamin c tablets from asda, crushed them up (its important to really crush them like a powder though not lumpy like i did!). then i mixed them with vosene.

Youtube it, it did work for me but I had really dark near black hair and now ive re-dyed it light brown. Not sure what it would do to red hair?

It's now a light copper ginger brown. As the instructions said it would be. Not sure whether de-colour it once more or slap on some washable brown.

I would wait a week as may lighten further. Sounds nice, can you live with it?

I bought it and did it last night. Mine is now the same colour as yours, op . Brassy, copper blonde light. Not good condition either which it was before. Not sure what to do next!

I tried a toner for copper hair to turn ash, it didn't work.

tbh it did say on the leaflet that after a red dye, especially if you used the ones that lighten slightly, then the orange is not your hair's colour bause that is what highlighted brown is.

Now put on Clairol Nice'n'Easy Ash medium blonde 73, 6 to 8 washes and waiting fro it to dry. if still brassy, I will do once more removal and then put on ash brown on top.

Erm, it looks red again . it might be the conditioner though, it always makes the colour look darker.

I have dark brown and have been haphazardly colouring my grey bits for years at home. Started to notice after my last application of a root touch-up that I have some alarming black patches of colour build-up at the front and ends. So have this evening tried to remove build-up with this: www.dgjorganics.com/products/hair-colour-remover-for-dark-tones-colour-build-up with the aim of then re-dyeing.

It's OK to use, has left my hair in pretty good condition (so far) and has certainly worked. It's just about dry now and the grey bits are now a cool pale caramel (not at all orangey in this light). Need a second opinion in the morning from someone who can see the back, but so far am tempted to leave it like this. Looks like I've had highlights/low lights! Or perhaps blend in with something gentle like Danield Field? Wasn't as cheap as the Boots one but am quite impressed.

I think i am going to go to hair dresser to sort it out! And it still smells of egg !

I put on the clairol dye and it looks much better still red reflexes but it's definitely brown now. I put on a dark ash blind but in a week I'll put in ash medium brown. It hopefully be sorted then.
