Hi
Newmum who needs to know where to start buying babygros. It's a girl so would you buy little dresses for 3-6mths or not worth the money?many thanks

I think John Lewis baby grows are the best. Nice colours and designs, wash well and are neither too thick or thin.

I do think though that looking after the clothes you buy and not tumble drying them is just as important as the quality of what you buy.

Rummikub · 01/04/2014 05:52

I liked tescos ones. Washed well. Mothercare and boots ones lost their shape after a few washes.

You might want to get a couple of dresses for cuteness factor.

lolalotta · 01/04/2014 06:11

I disagree about the John Lewis bany grows! Mine faded and went very scraggly and sad looking and bobbled! I like Sainsbury's the best though the sizes come up big!

lolalotta · 01/04/2014 06:12

Madame could have a point though, I was tumble drying them... :-S

MistletoeBUTNOwine · 01/04/2014 06:14

Sainsburys have fold over sleeves which are better than scratch mitts too
And I disagree about tumbling- softer and quicker to wash-dry so you don't need more than a couple of packs in each size
IMO dresses are a pita the ride up all the time Grin

Wuxiapian · 01/04/2014 06:26

I find the next babygrows to be a lovely, soft quality - lovely quality.

I've always bought outfits for my (3) children as I like to dress them when out and about.

Congratulations on your new baby!

dontevenblink · 01/04/2014 06:32

I found Sainsburys and Next ones to be the best, have lasted all 3 of my dc and hopefully soon to be passed on to dc4. I tumble dry as I would never get everything dry otherwise and imo they come out softer. My dd was given a couple of little dresses with matching knickers to go over the nappy and they did get some wear as it was summer. My two boys just lived in babygros.

Stubbed · 01/04/2014 06:39

I have an absolutely gorgeous babygro made by Hatley. Too expensive for under 6 months as it wouldn't get the wear, but lovely for older ones.

I was given lots of outfits as presents so didn't buy anything except newborn and 0-3 babygros (I would suggest Next for these) but from 2 months or so usually put her in outfits during the day. Until she was sick on them...

Quodlibet · 01/04/2014 06:42

Mamas and Papas ones or Next for great quality. M n P do nicer prints in my opinion.
Dresses are a faff/ride up so only bother if you want them for special occasions.

I love the ones from Next, I get loads of my DD's clothes from there...

redcaryellowcar · 04/05/2014 22:12

i really like marks and Spencer, vests have stitched flat seams so more comfortable for baby, they seem slimmer, and perhaps a little smaller, i think tesco & matalan come up very wide, and like that marks don't, i assume that a slimmer fit must be more snug and warm?

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 04/05/2014 22:20

Mothercare as they have the built in scratch mitts. Boots and next and m &s are good quality, wash well. Ds was a summer baby so no tumbling.

I always buy outfits as gifts from 3-12 months old

QueenOfThorns · 04/05/2014 22:25

I agree about the Mothercare and Next ones - I don't use the fold over ends because DD likes to suck her fingers to self soothe, but the quality is very good. I found that Asda ones were very nice as well, lovely and soft and much nicer than Tesco. Tesco ones also seem to have bizarrely short legs. Their vests are good, though!

Equimum · 01/06/2014 10:10

Sainsburys or Gap.

It's upto you really with dressed. With DS we bought 2-3 outfits in that size for when we going somewhere I wanted him to look nice, but he wore sleepsuits to baby groups, at home etc.

EagerBeaver101 · 02/06/2014 23:29

tesco, matalan, next clearance, asda, maybe mothercare but they are known to be off on their sizing a bit and i think they shrink. steer clear of primarni for baby stuff its ruined after one use and so thin

EagerBeaver101 · 02/06/2014 23:30

Oh and H&M are amazeballs for baby stuff in store is better than online though as online stuff seems to go super fast

BikeRunSki · 02/06/2014 23:32

Next
Jojomamanbebe
John Lewis

A lot of babygrows come with scratch mits built in

enormouse · 02/06/2014 23:34

Sainsburys and next. Wash really well and have fold over scratch mitts. Lovely, colourful designs too.

I found asda the worst, quite thin and my long, skinny babies would poke their feet out of the gaps between the poppers.

ItStillLooksLikeRainDear · 02/06/2014 23:35

I found John Lewis were great for DS but didn't really like them for DD.

Next have lovely girls baby grows & clothes & wash really well.

I wouldn't bother with too many dresses until walking - especially crawling age as they just get in the way & DC will get frustrated & fall.

amals1 · 02/06/2014 23:49

Next babygros are really lovely. Very soft and don't lose shape. Are reasonably priced too.

fruitpastille · 02/06/2014 23:50

Next and jojomamanbebe for babygros but supermarkets are ok. I got given lots of second hand ones but keep them for night time as a bit scruffy.
Tops and leggings are easier than dresses. Buttons at the back are annoying but common! I just used babygros for the first 2-3 months though.

EagerBeaver101 · 03/06/2014 00:19

Nexy really are the bee's knee's for kids clothes aren't theySmile especially the clearance god i love the clearance so much its borderline unhealthy Wink

madforgreentea · 03/06/2014 00:26

The very best are by serendipity organics (shhh don't want to tell too many people) as they are amazingly soft and very tasteful. And even after washing in London water come out soft. But soooo expensive. I found John Lewis ones were better quality cotton than supermarkets and better cut and fit too (all the others were weird high leg). Nature baby also do really cute ones but again really expensive. Mamas and papas seriously the worst. Overpriced and poor quality. And petit bateau overpriced hype. If you go for supermarket then asda better than sainsburys. Or try polarn o pyret when they have sales.

SueDNim · 03/06/2014 00:30

I liked the Boden rompers. They were great quality and as they didn't have feet, they didn't pull on DD's toes
