Opinions, please, on this for a (special) mid-June evening engagement party

So sorry to those who've already commented, but a couple of weeks ago I asked for opinions on this dress, though I didn't have a good picture of it.

Now have one:
www.drapiere.com/Kiss-me-Quick-Black-Turquoise-Oriental-Silk-Empire-Line-Dress-Plus-size-Fahion-Brial-Wedding-Mother-of-the-Bride-sale-407

The occasion is my DS's engagement party, so special. It's going to be held in a posh London members' club in Mayfair - bubbles and canapés, etc, in early June.

I've actually tried this on - though not in my size - they'll do one specially to my measurements. I like it but my main reservation is whether the black is quite right for a June evening.

Views, please, if you're patient enough. TIA.

How about booking into see a peronal shopper at John Lewis. They have several different services and they have an hour session which is free.

that's really weird - none of those LK Bennett dressed I linked to are the ones I actually meant!

don't know what went wrong there. Take a look at site!

Don't worry re L K Bennett links. I love LKB - have lots of their shoes and scarves and some bags but, alas, can't fit into their dresses either.

If you don't mind sharing polyhmnia what dress size are you, it would make looking for suggestions easier. I understand if you don't want to say though.

polyhymnia · 29/03/2014 19:26

Will work my way through the other links later this pm - many thanks. Happy to be saved from a bad choice.

Should have said 'large' here means 'large' not Nigella-like - a 22. But, though old enough to have a 29 year old DS, not 70 years old, as someone queried (and, even if I were, would want to be stylish, not frumpy!).

OP posts:
Sharingeverything · 29/03/2014 19:28

That was me, I didn't mean to suggest you were 70, just that that dress would only pass as anything other than frumpy on someone over 70, sorry polyhmina. I think some of the dresses I suggested go up to a 22, not sure about whether you like the styles though.

polyhymnia · 29/03/2014 19:28

PS that (the 22 size) is why I said up thread I didn't want Simply Be or Anna Scholz.

I do love fashion, btw, and am very fussy - though evidently not everyone would have guessed from my OP.

oh Bloody hell, just clicked my own link. I'm so sorry OP I'd posted that link earlier to my sister who's just had an operation.

Have you looked at kiyonna.com or Igigi.com?

polyhymnia · 30/03/2014 17:26

No worries TSS I'm not a great M and S fan and had assumed it was their website that was faulty not you taking the piss!

Have looked at both of those in past purple but need to look again now I've got a specific occasion in mind. Will also look carefully at some of other links posted.

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 30/03/2014 19:28

Many thanks for all the links which I've now looked at - specially to everything who sent lots.

Haven't found the 'perfect one' yet, I'm afraid.

Some are sold out. The Persona one - the fabric of which I like best, for its interesting modern print - unfortunately has a high neck and no definition at waist, so wouldn't be very flattering on me, I think.

The first Gina Bacconi - bright blue - has possibilities but I think it would be a bit hot for June, particularly as it's polyester. Found the second Bacconi a bit frumpy. Chesca tend to be much too short in the body for me (I'm 5'9'').

Looked at Curvety, for Igigi and Kyonna. What do people think of this
www.curvety.com/igigi-by-yuliya-raquel-nencia-cocktail-dress-in-navy-p723 ? I'm not sure.

To go back to the original label I posted, of her others I like this -
www.drapiere.com/Dita-on-a-Trapeze-Black-and-Beige-Animal-Print-Jersey-Dress-with-Silk-Collar-and-Cuffs-Plus-size-Fashion-Bridal-Wedding-Mother-of-the-Bride-sale-423
though would probably go for self-coloured, not black tie and cuffs. But perhaps not very summery/ frumpy?.

The lace one is lovely, best one you have posted. The last one screams Pat Butcher at me.

polyhymnia · 30/03/2014 23:33

cereal that's my DH's view on the second one too fwiw!

ChishandFips33 · 31/03/2014 00:04

I like your navy choice too for the structure/definition.

Have you considered maxi length to use your height to its advantage (though if you've got great legs it seems a shame to hide them)

Do you have preferences on colour, are you happy with exposed arms or are you looking to cover up?

Opinions, please, on this for a (special) mid-June evening engagement party

ILoveWooly · 31/03/2014 00:34

The navy is beautiful but oh lord step away from the other website... quickly!

Depending on how you feel about your arms THIS is nice.

I love THIS.

polyhymnia · 31/03/2014 08:07

Don't think long would right on this occasion. (and am keen to display my legs).

On arms, am looking at short sleeves not sleeveless or cap.
Think the black and white Jacques Vert is a bit more weddingy than early evening.

As for original site - it was recommended on this thread!

OP posts:
ILoveWooly · 31/03/2014 09:00

Sorry I read early June not early evening. The cream wouldn't look out of place in a Mayfair members club at lunch never mind evening.
I wasn't being rude about the website but you seem too fashion conscious to use it!

polyhymnia · 31/03/2014 09:54

Thanks. No didn't think you were being rude . But it's do hard to get really nice dresses in my size that, when I saw that site recommended here, it seemed worth checking out.

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 31/03/2014 10:07

that navy one you linked to is lovely. You said you've got good legs so it's a great length to show them off a bit
