From kitten heels to Crocs???? Is there any hope??

I’ve name-changed for this, as I’m about to reveal something shameful ……

Following minor foot surgery before Christmas, I found myself In the Twilight Zone of footwear; it had to be flat shoes, and something comfortable. So I had trainers in my wardrobe, but in the first few weeks I couldn’t wear anything “enclosed” so I bought a pair of mules from Pavers, they did the job and were actually far nicer than I expected. Once I got back to work, trainers weren’t really appropriate, so I discovered Skechers – if you buy a black pair with a black sole (rather than a white sole that makes them look like trainers) they’re quite discreet and soooo comfy. So then I migrated towards something a little lighter and to my amazement found these on the Crocs website:

www.crocs.co.uk/crocs-womens-crocs-retro-slingback-flat/14126,en_GB,pd.html?cid=085&cgid=women-footwear-flats

I ordered them, and they’re amazing. However I’ve recently been discharged by my surgeon; he declared I’m officially “fixed”, he discharged me and I can now wear heels (carefully) and generally re-join the human race as far as footwear is concerned. My collection of Dune kitten heels and wedges is calling to me, but (and please help me Lord) now I’ve discovered comfy shoes I don’t know if there’s any going back ……..

So unless anyone can help me with my plight, I’ll probably keep wearing my Pavers/Skechers/Crocs when I’m out and about, and keep my more elegant styles for office wear and social occasions. What’s happened to me??? Should I seek further medical advice????? Or has anyone else found themselves in this situation????? I feel shame ……..

Oh! I have no shame. I love Crocs and I don't give a rat's arse. I don't like the original ones mind but the slingback ones are brilliant. They are neat on the foot, springy and they last for ages. The Mary Jane ones are good too. The boots though are a let down. They don't have the same comfort level at all.

I just don't understand why anyone would tolerate uncomfortable shoes.

Now have a look at Art Company and Fly London. Bloody marvellous.

"My name is Chish and I wear flats and own several pairs of crocs (not originals tho!)

I literally cried when told no more heels but have grown to love comfort having suffered so much foot pain. Crocs, Ecco, DM's, Karrimor walking sandals and can now, once or twice a week, wear my Hudson low heeled boots - it took a long time to find 'nice' shoes (spent nearly 2 yrs in Clarks Velcro shoes and even went to pick up the same shoe a 'granny' did on one shopping trip!) and I've spent stupid money (compared to what I used to need to spend - £80 on sandals) but now if I find nice, stylish comfortable shoes I buy in every nice colour and sod the cost!

Those who know you, know your pains and what you've been through. Those who don't know you; there opinions don't really matter - keep your heels for treats and you at least still get to wear them sometimes

Really should preview post! Apologies for grammar and spellings!

As the weather now appears to be getting better, I'm enjoying my crocs retro slingbacks for "out and about", I've put my black Skechers Go Walk to the back of the wardrobe (DH hated them, but tolerated them on the grounds that I'd just had an operation). There are some fabulous ballet pumps in really pretty colours that will get me through the spring and summer (have you checked out Pikolinos, Georgia Rose, Coolway Ballet) and then when the weather turns again, I may go back to Skechers - but Skechers trainers instead of Skechers shoes. If you go for the all-black coloured trainers, they don't look so trainer-ish (if that makes sense) and don't offend DH quite as much as Skechers Go Walk .......

Crocs also do a skecher-type shoe, but it's a tad more flattering:

I live in these www.skechers.co.uk/style/13563/skechers-on-the-go-unite/nvy

I have no shame :D They are even comfier than my crocs( and I think actually lighter) AND I can get away with them at work.

They look almost decent with chinos!

Pumpkinette · 01/04/2014 00:50

I used to love Art boots flange I didn't know they were still around I will need to take a look.

Anyway OP I say stick to flats if you find them comfortable and keep heels for office/ special occasions / nights out etc. I know you've been given the all clear but you can use it as an excuse not to wear heels all the time - you don't want to mess your feet up after surgery.

I spend most of my time in flats.( Although I do have a pair of suede wedge boots I am in love with at the moment) I can't walk in high heels so its for the best. I have some small heels for nights etc but its more effort than its worth half the time!

Nocomet · 01/04/2014 01:01

I have very narrow heels all court shoes heals or flats either fall off or hurt.

Comfortable shoes all the way!

I have sketcher trainers (pretty flowery ones, they have stopped doing Angry)
Some suede converse and lots of flat or low healed boots and sandals.

And a pair of real traditional crocs I wear as slippers, but DD bans leaving the garden.

sunnyfeet · 01/04/2014 10:38

Medusa I've been looking at the Skechers Unite you recommended, glad to hear they're comfortable. The black ones would be discrete for winter wear, and the navy ones look like deck shoes and would be great for spring/summer!
