Please help - I need a 'going out' top and I'm apple shaped :-(

I have a rare night out planned next week and I'm looking for a top to go with either black skinny jeans or a black pencil skirt. My tummy is enormous at the minute thanks to the medication I'm taking and I can't find anything that helps hide it Sad I'm a 14-16 at the moment and have a budget of around £60 but don't want to spend too much as I'm trying desperately to loose some weight.

Try Googling 'tops and dresses for an apple shape' -sorry, can't link but there is a website called 40+ Style. Realise that in all likelihood you are not that age but you may find some ideas for the right shapes to go for.

I agree with earlier posters, a black swing top and a lovely bright chunky necklace (great ones in topshop or accessorise at the mo).

If you've got nice arms and don't want to spend too much, how about this strappy cami from F&F for £8? It looks quite expensive in the flesh and floats over lumps and bumps so is quite flattering with jeans and heels, and you could boing it up with a chunky necklace.

I'm an apple shape just now, my belly, boobs and upper arms are the only places I get fat, I long to see my waist again but it will be many months before I get it back.

In the meantime I'm covering my elaborate Bravissimo rigging with a silk vest, followed by drapey tops and dresses from All Saints and a lot of big jewellery.

Something like this outfit? www.allsaints.com/women/dresses/allsaints-inch-sleeveless-dress/?colour=5&category=739

The dress is loose about the waist but the leather leggings add shape and attitude; you could wear a white or grey marl long-sleeved layering top for warmth underneath?

Hoboken yes I'm just over 40 !!!! Thesaurus girl I love all saints but it's more than I want to spend as I'm determined to loose at least 2 stone once I've finished my medication.
Sherwood I like that cami and for 8 quid it's a bargain - I think we should get a dress-an-apple thread going Grin Thanks

I am apple shaped too and I bought this bargainous cowl top today in bright pink. It's quite generous around the middle and I plan to wear it with either long dangly earrings and/or long Y-shape chain necklace and skinny jeans.
As it's Matalan, I had to go up a size.

WildThong · 24/03/2014 17:30

maraki I bet that is lovely on! I have something similar from Mary Portas sale in House of Fraser.

I'm an apple shape and just bought these two tops from my local Asda! Both really loose on the tummy, and both flattering/hide a multitude of sins. I found I had to size down on both, very generous fitting :-)
