Foundation for deathly pale skin

Firstly, I do not tan. I spent a month in LA and came back just as white as when I left despite not using sunscreen. Every foundation I've ever used has left me looking orangey to say the least.
Finally after many years I've found a combination that works for me. Gosh Velvet Touch Foundation Primer followed by a Maybelline Whitestay Foundation in snow white I picked up from the 99p store a while ago. It's the perfect shade for me, ghost white! On top of that I use a loose No.7 powder.

My problem is I'm now running very low of the Maybelline whitestay and it seems to be quite rare and expensive now.

Can anyone recommend me a porcelain white foundation please thats not too expensive and readily available on the highstreet?

I'm really pale and struggled with years with foundations - now my face has more red tones its easier (kind of) I would previously just make do with translucent powder over moisturised skin. Bare minerals was ok too but pricy.

I know the body shop has a range out by lily cole that supposedly has a good selection of pale shades but I haven't tried any.

I use lancome 24H in shade 005 and I'm like Caspar!

jaffacakesallround · 22/03/2014 11:17

Bobbi Brown Alabaster is very pale.

I am very pale. I use No.7 Intelligent colour in 'extra ligh't. It is a very sheer foundation so it doesn't make you look any colour really - just better.

Lily polo in porcelain/ China doll. Very cheap to try their sampler pots.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 22/03/2014 11:32

Polo?! Lolo, lily lolo!

LokiDokey · 22/03/2014 12:31

Ooh the No.7 Intelligent colour is on offer at Boots (buy 2 No.7 products and get a free gift box) and I need the No.7 Translucent powder as well so I might try that first.
I think I'll pick up a MAC White as well after watching that vid, but that will have to wait until payday Grin

I've always been deathly white, not helped by the fact I have very dark hair either I guess. I'm somewhat paranoid of looking orange and as has been said almost every hight street foundation has left me looking orangey. The Maybelline has a lovely slightly pinky tone to it which just lifted my colouring enough to make me look less, well, dead.
I've actually found somewhere selling the Maybelline for £9 a bottle but the stubborn cow in me thinks "They've bought that in the 99p store!"

The Lily Cole stuff was being sold in Poundland a few months back, I picked up a few eyeshadows and a concealer but never saw any foundation. I'm not sure it's still going as it's suddenly become very difficult to find.

You can get whitestay on amazon but it is 8.99.

HaymitchAbarnathy · 22/03/2014 13:57

Or 3.99 with 2.75 postage. Different shade though.

itsbetterthanabox · 22/03/2014 14:35

Loreal true match go pretty pale. I'm very pale with pink undertones and the lightest, pinkest one suits me.

LokiDokey · 22/03/2014 19:57

Haymitch I bit the bullet and ordered a whitestay whilst I experiment with other shades, at least then I've got something to be going on with. Typically the shade I use, snow white, is the £8.99 one Sad

I had a play with Loreal true match in Tesco tonight amongst other brands (and since when did Tesco Extras have Barry M counters!?) but all were still a bit too orangey for my tone.

I'm going to go for the MAC on payday I think. That way I can use the endless tubes of BB cream in the wrong shade to mix in with it.

do try revlon colourstay in ivory to mix it with. i haven't liked a foundation as much as this for ages. no orange in it at all.

LokiDokey · 22/03/2014 21:14

nc I'll give it a whirl. I bought a Maybelline dream mousse a while ago which I just loved the consistency of. The colour sadly was terrible.
What doesn't help my cause (and I really ought to have learned by now) is I test on the back of my hand. I have vitiligo which in itself on my hands is a little orangey in colour so when I rub the tester on my hand its usually a cracking match. Blush Sadly I forget that my hands and face are completely different tones.

Test foundation on your inner arm.

itsbetterthanabox · 23/03/2014 09:02

The lightest and pinkest loreal true match shouldn't have been orangey at all. Rose ivory has pink undertones not not yellow ones. It still could be too dark for you though.
You probably have cool skin with pink undertones so need a cool foundation. No Yellow at all!

FieryChipotle · 23/03/2014 09:13

I am practically translucent and I use Maybelline Super Stay 24hr in Light Beige, which suits my skin tone perfectly and doesn't wear off or transfer on to my clothes.

Another vote for Illamasqua.

I find it excellent value because of the coverage.

Rimmel porcelain isn't a bad cheapo alternative, but I reckon Illamasqua actually works out cheaper in the long run.
