On putting Kim kardashian and Kanye West on the cover of Vogue.

"'Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it.
I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)

'As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover.
He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.

'There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason: Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that."

.........

I bought every copy of Vogue from 1980 until 1995 and then two or three a year and now the occasional copy, maybe one a year. I always buy one for my friend at Christmas. I loved it, absolutely loved it back in the 1980s/90s.

Hilarious that it has now come to Kim kardashian being on the cover, quite possibly the worst dressed woman ever, who came to fame through a sex tape and her father's name.

Now I know I will never buy it again as it's sunk so low!

The cover photo taken by Annie Leibovitz is awful, Kim's hands look huge and mannish.

Honestly Dexter if you kept up with current events you'd know she had a scan on her show and proved it was real [rolls eyes] Wink

dexter73 · 21/03/2014 20:12

I have never watched the Kardashian show as I am not that shallow Mrs CB only the Real Housewives for me Wink

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/03/2014 20:14

I should have known Dexter. I ahem have been known to occasionally watch that too.

dexter73 · 21/03/2014 20:15

Best programme on tv!

Methe · 21/03/2014 20:16

I think she looks like she needs a good wash.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/03/2014 20:18

New Jersey has become my recent guilty addiction. I have to watch on laptop in the kitchen so children/DH don't realise what I'm doing.

santamarianovella · 21/03/2014 20:18

I love RHOBH,I want to be like yolanda foster, when I grow up.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/03/2014 20:19

No Santa - yolanda has gone bad and backstabby crazy. You don't want to be her.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/03/2014 20:20

I do read books and stuff though as well and listen to r4 honestly. Blush

redrubyindigo · 21/03/2014 20:20

KK appears in the Daily Mail regularly looking vacant and wearing a crop top and pencil skirt. Kanye makes awful music and says really stupid things.

bigkidsdidit · 21/03/2014 20:25

How can you not know? I've never seen the programme, I don't have sky. I read the guardian and listen exclusively to radio 4. I still know all about her. It's just common currency isn't it?

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 21/03/2014 20:26

Thumbs down. This is not what I have always bought Vogue for. Vogue is supposed to rise above this kind of populist crap. Depressing but unsurprising.

And, more importantly, if Vogue was going to do this I'd expect them to come up with some absolutely awesome photography, really great and eye-catching images. This cover? Absolute meh.

santamarianovella · 21/03/2014 20:28

Can i just have her house and closet? ,just bags and jewellery,I don't think I can fit my tiny 5'5 frame in to her clothes,

TheGirlFromIpanema · 21/03/2014 20:30

Fair play to them I say! I think Kanye is a real hottie and KK seems like the sort of girl who'd make a decent mate Smile

She doesn't listen to the haterzzzzzz anyways Grin

coffeeinbed · 21/03/2014 20:38

American Vogue has the most hilarious photoshop fuck ups.
I agree with OP though.

Sorry, I just don't see the appeal of those two.

seasalt · 21/03/2014 23:05

Looks more like the cover of OK magazine. I don't like the clothes Kim wears, look really uncomfortable on her.

scarletforya · 21/03/2014 23:13

Anna Wintour never had the plot in the first place. Have your seen her hair!?

noblegiraffe · 21/03/2014 23:17

What's her career? What does she actually do? I've seen pictures of her arse and heard she did a sex tape. Apart from that, what has she got to talk about in an interview?

RhondaJean · 21/03/2014 23:20

It's very lowest common denominator isn't it.

JohnCusacksWife · 22/03/2014 00:31

Have never in my whole life read Vogue and never seen KK's show.....am I weird?!

Plus think anyone sporting Anna Wintour's hairstyle clearly never had the plot in the first place. Am i about to be excommunicated from S&B.....?

squoosh · 22/03/2014 00:38

Hate it.

Kim Kardashian is monumentally dull. Amazing that such a 'top' celebrity an be so utterly banal and one dimensional. I don't mind a bit slebdom but at least be interesting. She is beautiful but her cosmetically altered bum and face are verging into the weird territory.

Kanye is an utter wanker. Just looking at him brings me out in hives. He's been after the Vogue cover so desperately I suspect it means more to him than the baby!

Badly done Anna, badly done.

squoosh · 22/03/2014 00:42

No.

Anna Wintour lost the plot
Thundercrackers · 22/03/2014 09:52

On the one hand, though, I can see why Anna has done this - she realises that print media is dying rapidly and wants to tap into a new, lucrative audience. However, what luminaries are going to want to grace her covers now? Do you really think Michelle Obama or anyone else respectable, interesting and relevant will want to appear now in the wake of this pair? Especially since rumours abound that Kanye had to pay a LOT of money and spend a lot of time to make this all happen. I don't have anything against Kim and Kanye personally, but Vogue can now no longer be set apart from all the low rent gossip mags anymore - it's become a celebrity thing and that's hard to step back from commercially.
