How do I get away with not blow drying my hair everyday?

I wash my hair everyday. If I don't it looks horrendous, lank, heavy, oily, and I can't do anything with it to make it look nice. I have tried dry shampoos but my hair then feels awful, like rigid straw.

I don't mind washing it daily as I prefer to shower everyday and it only takes a couple of minutes.

The real faff and time comes from blow drying it.

I have fine fair straight hair currently chin length with side swept fringe and long layers.

I do not look good with long hair (too fine) and due to ahem largish ears ponytails/up do's are not my friend.

If I let it dry naturally it looks very thin and wispy.

So I am stuck with drying and styling it everyday.

Please can you help me if you have any tips that can help me get away without blow drying?

I have really thick but stupidly unruly hair. But have trained it so I can at a push go 4 days without washing it but only if I'm having an indoors weekend.

I wash hair on day 1 (shampoo & condition). Blow dry & maybe finish with straighteners.

Day 2 I hair up in shower. Then dry shampoo a bit but leave down.

Day 3 I use dry shampoo again. But hair up.

If day 4 is a Sunday And I'm not going out I don't bother with anything. Just pile hair up. And try and ignore it.

I use tresseme shampoos. And either batiste of tresseme dry shampoo. Batiste have loads of smells. I don't like the original one so much. Much prefer tropical. Or cherry. Tresseme do a mouse one as well as a powder which is nice the natural one smells lovely. Both batiste and tresseme dry shampoos are usually on special offer in boots.

I used to wash mines every second day but now I only wash it once a week after 'training' it.

Attraversiamo - that's what I'm aiming for. I'd save a fortune on shampoo.

Friend of mine read in a magazine that you'll get super amazing hair if you leave it for 6 weeks no washing. She did and she did. But she was travelling round South America at the time so no one she knew to see her, no work to go to etc.

How can you do the no washing thing if you go swimming regularly? Whatever shampoo might do to it, that can't be worse than chlorinated pool water, surely?

I have fine ear length hair. If i don't wash it everyday my head just feels wrong all day with a bit of itch and sticky out hair sections making it feel unbalanced. As i write it feels weird cos i puposely didnt wash it today. I'll try the tips on here. And i might try just wetting it in my daily shower to make it hang right but not dry it out....

I used to wash my hair every day for exactly the same reasons and then I got pregnant and got hyperemesis and that three months seems to have "reset" my hair. I have a very similar style to you. I recommend weaning yourself off over shampooing it by starting to leave it every other day.

Now i do it every other day and on the off day I dry shampoo it with batiste, then brush it upside down, spritz it with leave in conditioner and use my babyliss big hair to restyle it a bit. Works like a charm.

Update

Yesterday I washed with just shampoo (my usual John Frieda blonde)

I styled using Elnett heat protection spray and lots of Elnett hairspray.

When I woke up hair did feel less oily (I usually use conditioner everyday)

Today I tied back hair and just shampooed the fringe.

I have just dried fringe using my hot air brush and put lots more Elnett hairspray in the rest.

It currently looks and feels ok. I don't want to touch it much and it looks more tousled rather than my usual sleek look but it is presentable.

Will see how it progresses through the day.

Well.

My day 2 of new regime lasted about 9hrs before hair felt really awful so I did kind of get away with it.

The revelation is today. Washed again with no conditioner and my hair looks and feels great. I think the natural oils yesterday conditioned it more than conditioner.

I have also just got a Tangle Angel hairbrush which felt a bit weird but has made my hair look very smooth.

I am going to persevere with the every other day thing for a while.

Have you tried using a tiny (and I mean pea-size) blob of the original MoroccanOil? I have very fine hair and thought it would make it looks greasy, but just smoothing a bit over when wet makes it sit really well when left to dry. Absolutely love it and swear by it now.

I wash and dry naturally in the evening then straighten gently the following morning. Most I can go is 3 days though. What do we think of the old fashioned hot brushes - I had one back in the 80s and I wonder if it would do a better (for the hair) job than the GHDs?
