my firends training to be a nail technician and i was her guienie pig. One of my nails have just dropped off and shes on holiday ive never had them on before so havent a clue what to do.The tips come off completely but the pink bits still attached can i just get something to remove it from the supermarket or do i have to have them professionally removed. The others are intact but i think i may just have them removed too but i have no idea what im doing.

bite them off from the side, or cut the top off and the rest will kinda peel off.

Nail polish remover should do it - you need the stuff with acetone in (I think)

Do not attempt to rip them off - you will ruin your own nails

Other option is file down the one you've lost

you can buy a product called "get'em off" from most supermarkets which will soak them off or just cover that one with a plaster until you can get them removed at a salon about £10

fairydust · 15/08/2006 22:17

soak it in acetone

fattiemumma · 15/08/2006 22:19

soak in Nail Varnish remoer for a few minutes and slowly try and loosen them frm the side.

alternativly just go to the salon tomorrow and ask them to rplace the nail thats broken. will cost about £5

acetone. most np remover contains it.

your nails will be crap underneath - don't panic, it will take a couplke of months to get them back in shape, they will feel very soft, and break. I would say the best thing is to keep them clipped very short for 8 weeks at least - sorry if this is bad news!

Gobblunarcharsky · 16/08/2006 16:10

soak in acetone but be warned, it takes ages. First of all you need to buff off the top shiny layer. Then soak in a bowl of acetone. To make it quicker, sit the bowl of acetone over a bowl or cup of hot water. The warmer the acetone the quicker it will work but DON'T heat the acetone directly.

Also, acetone evaporates quickly so you can't put the bowl down and come back to it later or it will have gone!

Alternatively, you can do what I sometimes do which KILLS, but try and pick them at the sides and then lift them off.

Yes, your nails underneath may look flaky and this is worse if you pick them off rather than soaking them off properly.

Apparantly Acetate?! Girl I work with uses false nails and she's says acetate works.....

fuzzywuzzy · 16/08/2006 16:12

durr acetone

Mascaraohara · 16/08/2006 16:14

acetone.

Go to a wholesaler and buy a small bottle.. pour in a bowl a soak.

Remove nail varnish first and cut of any excess length.. will take about 30 mins.

berrycherry · 17/08/2006 12:25

put the acetone in a bowl over hopt water (like melting chocolate), I think this speeds up process.

I'm prob to late but NEVER pick false nails off!! you can seriously damage your nail bed. soak off.

another tip is to soak cotton wool in acetone, place on nail, wrap in foil and then put hands in very warm water.
