Has anyone had a cheap (ie £100 ish) wedding dress from EBay? I think they are mostly made in China.

Bargain, or to be avoided at all costs?

Thanks -- looks like they are no longer an Ebay member

I got a bridesmaids dress for my DD from Light the Box.it was stunning, beautiful workmanship and made to the exact measurements.

If you use them, make sure that you are aware that the measurements they give are the sizes of the garment , not of you. So if you are a 36 bust, you don't want a dress that is 36 bust as it will be lined and boned . Best to measure a garment that fits you well.

Kristina Thanks do you mean Lightinthebox.com?

That's a bit weird as my dress only arrived about 3 weeks ago!?

Just double checked in my eBay messages as corresponded quite a bit with them and they are still a member? Are you sure you entered the name correctly?

I bought a full length evening dress from a Chinese ebay seller last year- it doesn't quite fit (because I bought it smaller planning to lose weight and haven't quite lost enough yet!) but it was £30-35 so well worth it, there is no way I could buy anything as good here, even in the sales!

SadEyedLady · 15/03/2014 19:57

I got mine for £35 and it was lovely. Everyone who saw it was astounded it only cost that much. I'd just say get it enough in advance so that you could get an alternative if need be. My back up was a Monsoon dress that cost £250, luckily I didn't need to rush out and make an emergency purchase!

I had my dress made via eBay but the company didn't just operate on eBay I think they have a separate site Too ( they were called gianiarbridal if I remember rightly).

It was beautiful and the workmanship was absolutely spot on - I am a size 24 and was six months pregnant at the time and they made the back of the bodicen lace up so it was slightly adjustable too.

There is a ( not very good ) pic on my profile of the dress ( its the black and white one ) and whilst it may not be every persons cup Of tea I can vouch that it was £140 ( inc petticoat) well spent and looked like the £1000 ones that I had tried on in a plus size bridal boutique. Oh I forgot to mention that after sending them the measurements they would send me intermittent photos of the dress ' in construction ' as it were - it's not too much to lose if you hate it but I can certainly recommend them.

SadEyedLady Who was yours made by? Which company / Ebay seller.

Am also slightly concerned about the ethics if anyone has any comments on that side of things

Hello. I got my wedding dress from china through eBay for£55 inc postage. I had to pay £60 for some adjustments, but that was mainly because I hadn't measured myself properly. It was beautiful! And I have more ££ to spend on shoes!!

icanmakeyouicecream · 15/03/2014 20:13

bit.ly/1dfvXLH - here it is

SadEyedLady · 15/03/2014 20:17

Soyoureallythinkso, yes, I think it did. My only complaint was that one of the seams was very slightly wonky, just under my arm, but you couldn't see it at all really when I was wearing it. My sister was very sceptical about the whole thing, but when she saw the dress she was pleasantly surprised. I'll see if I can dig out a picture of me wearing it...

Soyoureallythinkso · 15/03/2014 20:24

laracroft2001 which was your dress?

Your dresses all look lovely by the way ladies.

Sorry, yes light in the box.com

Re white dress with blue embroidery -you need to read the web pages really carefully. They often say " the embroideries /sash /beading will be in the colours shown, whatever your choice of fabric "

But you still see lots of people asking " if I get a red dress will the embroidery be red too ? "
