bra help please (nursing bra for ginormous norks)

I am having a bit of a problem getting nursing bras to fit. I have a wedding (SILs and DP is giving her away) to attend in 9 days and have a lovely dress I can feed in which is V necked. I thought I'd treat myself to a nice bra as well seeing as I'm planning on feeding for a while longer yet. Baby is 4 months.

I've just taken measurements using the better bra campaign guide and the measurements are 38 and 50 boggle. Baby hasn't fed for about 3 hours so I'm fairly full but not engorged. I'm a size 16/18. A 36 band is a little too tight.

Does this make me a 38HH/J (which stands for 38 HeckandHell right?)?

Has anybody got any feedback on Royce bras? They seem pretty and practical and reasonable but their fitting information is wrong and that makes me doubt them, perhaps unfairly.

Royce bras are good option for big boobs, but ime have very full coverage so will probably show under v neck dress. Sizing comes up a bit small by a cup size or so I think. What bras have you been wearing? I'm a big advocate of converting a regular bra, especially for a special occasion

I've got a Panache Sophie but I'm not that keen on it as it's just a drop cup with no extra support. I also have some miriam stoppard ones from Debenhams which are quite comfy but quite boring. I'd like to not feel quite so mumsy for a day

The v on the dress is a cross over so not too low.

I haven't got any bras to convert, all my old ones from pre pregnancy are too small in the cup and underwired.

I have never regarded Royce as anything other than practical, and the ones I had were all just drop cup too. It'S def worth trying because they were quite supportive (Royce jasmine) but didn't give great shape. Would Anita or elomi underwired ones go to your siZe? They have different sizing systems so I'm not sure. I converted underwires ones I bought new so I would have something nicer to wear. Wore them regularly after 6/8 months I think. It's fine if they fit really well.

I had the Royce ones and found the shape a bit droopy. How do you convert normal bras? Might be worth a try

I vote for getting a new, normal bra and converting as well. Soft nursing bras will never offer the same support and lift. And you will have loads more choice in your size, can get something nice on sale from Brastop or Ebay.

Why has this never occurred to me. I wore properly fitted under wired bras until 32 weeks (only stopped because had polyhydramniosis and bump was massive). I feel inspired, have got a grotty nursing bra I can cut clips off. Am off to browse brastop now! Genius ladies, I want to smooch you

it only occurred to me when I was going back to work and still breastfeeding. Had lost the babyweight, but still could not wear my work clothes, as boobs were (even in a proper, sturdy nursing bra) where the waistband should be
Right now they are under my chin where they belong again in a lovely, supportive, converted Fauve bra. And all clothes fit again as well.

I never had the sense to do this. I kicked both my babies off the breast in day time at 9 / 10 months almost purely because I was desperate to get back into proper bras. They fed morning and night though

Let us know if it works for you OP- always happy to convert more people to the joys of decent bras while breastfeeding. I def wouldn't have got to nearly 17months otherwise...

Found that as the cup material is very soft that I could hoik my boob out pretty easily. That's when I was 36K.

I've found some nice bras on bra-stop, 45% of Curvy Kate until tonight, so good time to buy and try.

MrsJK, my dress is from ebay, it's this Monsoon one I got mine from a seller in Hong Kong and it was cheap enough that if it didn't work I wouldn't be too sad. But It does, I do have to hoik my boob out of the top, but I've got a big black satin wrap to cover me and dd.

I also considered this 50s style wrap dress there are a few people selling this in different colours with short and 3/4 sleeves

and also considered this
dress in grey or purple which isn't a true wrap dress but is a cross over wrap top.
