Black suit with brown shoes, who's right me or DH?

DH has gone for an interview today, wearing a black pin stripe suit. To my horror he started to put brown shoes on, he rolled his eyes at me. So who was right?

Sorry Mitcham not Hackbridge

Depends what shade? Black and Tan is gorgeous together, not so good if it was a dark brown though..

Andcake · 11/03/2014 13:29

again a fan of black and tan - very stylish in some instances.

ChippyMinton · 11/03/2014 13:40

He's right. Italians do it. My DH won't and it give me the rage Grin

I work for a large corporate and many of our sales guys are sporting black suits and tan shoes . For an interview I would say black though .

Jbck · 11/03/2014 13:56

DH regularly wears black with a dark tan brogue, not my choice but he's very independent Grin

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 11/03/2014 13:58

You have ltb by now I hope? The shame.

Needtochillax · 11/03/2014 14:00

Black can go with brown shoes as long as he as a brown belt to match IMO!

Martorana · 11/03/2014 14:04

I suppose it depends who the interview is with. Some......commercial.....organisations might find it acceptable...

CuntyBunty · 11/03/2014 14:09

No. Did you have to restrain him, or did he do the decent thing in the end?

meditrina · 11/03/2014 14:15

It depends on how traditional the environment. The old standard would be brown bpshies in Londn only on Fridays, as that is the only day you'd wear a brown (tweed) suit in anticipation of departure for the countryside.

Pinstripes suits would be grey or navy (though sometimes dark enough to be nearly indistinguishable from black) and worn with black shoes.

Basically, you need to dress at interview as other who already have the job do. It makes it look as if you'll fit right in, which at that stage will be to his advantage.

So, if job is in a creative sector, then there is much greater latitude for all sorts of aspects of dress.

PigeonPairNell · 11/03/2014 14:19

Hmmmm what was the job? Is it something that would value somebody who thought outside the box occasionally? The shoes might make all the difference....Wink

Black with black for a funeral only

You wouldn't be wearing a black pinstripe suit to a funeral though. It would be a plain black suit.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 14/03/2014 07:26

He did wear the black shoes, and got the job (I teased him he wouldn't have got it if he'd worn the brown ones).

It was for an architecture practice so nothing particularly 'arty'. Apparently they all wear jeans & polo shirts normally.

No I haven't LTB yet Grin
