Can be clothing, bags, shoes anything. Just being nosy really!

OP posts:
thinking101 · 09/03/2014 22:48

Not insulted as such but confused, I havnt a fooking clue what I should be wearing - but hey I havnt got dressed for three days. We are full of illness here.

MorrisZapp · 09/03/2014 22:50

I'm not insulted, though I do wear loads of the brands mentioned here, among others. I always wonder what people do wear when they reject the entire high street.

RonaldMcDonald · 09/03/2014 22:51

Oh forgot, despise uggs, crocs - all comedy branding
Anything people are self conscious in

mysteryfairy · 09/03/2014 22:53

I think Desigual is truly hideous.

I am partial to mint velvet and all saints though so each to their own!

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 22:58

Desigual,oh god looks like caravan curtains

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 23:00

I shop Hobbs,m&s,primark,debenhams(great bargains),monsoon,tk maxx,almost any ole place

clippityclop · 09/03/2014 23:01

I want to like Fat Face and White Stuff because at least the clothes are mostly natural fibre and the colours are usually calm, non eye bleed. The designs lack structure somehow, too empire line, hang off the shoulders in sack like fashion which is rubbish if you're a size 8 short arse. Where should I go?

scottishmummy · 09/03/2014 23:03

Clothes and style are personal, one woman chic is another woman dogs dinner

cafecito · 09/03/2014 23:05

Cos! Though I wish I had discovered it when pregnant , oh so many excellent for maternity styles

er

anything with visible branding - why would I pay good money to be a walking advert for your company? I just want a bag, not a billboard -

Bagofnutsnbolts · 09/03/2014 23:10

I hate pictures of clothing...don't know why or though think it might hark back to my mum making me wear a vial green sweatshirt with pink ponies all over it oh god I crucified at school for that one! So pictures of or any writing irritates me and because I have no life I will happily spend hours unpicking stupid labels embroiled on to clothing!

Bagofnutsnbolts · 09/03/2014 23:11

Arg not embroiled should be embroidered....stupid auto correct!

RedCountryRoads · 09/03/2014 23:11

Radley. I'll never understand the handbag thing

RonaldMcDonald · 09/03/2014 23:15

God, Radley...seriously

sleepdodger · 09/03/2014 23:29

It's about knowing how to wear things not a slur against a whole brand
see Burberry Daniella Westbrook

thinking101 · 10/03/2014 13:35

woof woof Grin

desigual - ponders hat sort of hippy caravans scottishmumy stays in

so does where you shop depend on age n shape - is it dafe to summise this?

OP asked about brands though not all shops are brands that are obvious e.g. zara vs mulberry bags?

Also at what point did we think it is ok to refer to other females in a negative way using the term 'mum clothes/boots' is it so bad if we look like a mum? this is not in specific ref to this thread just general on MN

thinking101 · 10/03/2014 13:37

good point sleep

Rooners · 10/03/2014 13:38

I don't understand the appeal of Mulberry.

Also people still seem to rate Gap but it seems to have become really poor quality in the last maybe 7 years or so - our local one closed after being full of really cheap shite. It was a shame.

Laura Ashley is a load of pretentious twaddle (did buy a sofa there though at 70% off!) Blush

Focusingkingqueen · 10/03/2014 15:21

White Stuff and Fat Face are hideous
Boden is unbelievably expensive and frumpy

Also agree re Phase 8 - my mum wears it. She looks great. She's 65.

However, I love Zara and buy most of my tops there especially in the sale and also really rate their summer dresses. I buy bits in H&M and am currently very impressed with New Look for jeans and tops.

madammecholet · 10/03/2014 15:35

For me... in my opinion....

Orla Kiely - same same / highly patterned meh

TOAST - Oversized, slouchy, hempy, over priced

Uggs - just SO unflattering

Cath Kidston - overhyped floral stuff

Jack Wills - targeted at young people to pay stupid prices for hoodies.

Cos - yawn

Karen Millen - too bling

PAULS BOUTIQUE handbags - should be banned Grin

Puddles1234 · 10/03/2014 15:56

Hate: Orla Kiely
Cath Kidson
Boden
Cos
Coast
Karen Millen
Warehouse.

Love: I don't particularly wear a lot of High Street but the stores I love are.
Zara
Topshop
Reiss
LK Bennett
Mango

The stores I frequent are mainly department stores: Harrods, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and the like. I buy statement items from Chanel, Balmain, YSL, Tom Ford , Versace, Givenchy etc then back fill with filler pieces from the high street.

santamarianovella · 10/03/2014 16:44

I wouldn't diss an entire brand or high street shop, they do some things good, and some not that much, also not every single high street shop or high end brand suits everyone, you have to see what works for you.

thinking101 · 10/03/2014 16:50

Well with most of the highstreet blasted out of the water most people seem to be wearing

High end designery stuff see puddles list, least she stipulates

OR Tesco, Asda or Sainsbos.

OR Nowt - you are all sitting arounf in the nude MNing Grin

meh

PS I can quite asure anyone on this thread that I do not look 65 in my Phase8 charcol wrap dress. But then I dont want to go around looking like an Atomic Kitten band member reject.

I wish someon would just tell me/show me what to wear (maybe I should ring cbeebies)

rookiemater · 10/03/2014 16:56

Thinking101 - I'm guessing everyone is in Topshop which a lot of people seem to rate.

My least favourite look, which to me is far worse than the White Stuff or Boden uniform is the Jo Whiley outfit. This is where someone over the age of 40 buys all their stuff from Top Shop and dresses like a teenager, just because they still have the figure to do so ( mild bit of jealousy in there), to me it looks desperate and somewhat unappealing.

I'd far rather be mutton dressed as well presented mutton than as lamb.

MooseBeTimeForSpring · 10/03/2014 17:13

Chanel nail varnish. Needs at least two costs and a top cost if you want to avoid coloured streaks on paperwork.
