Ideas for non traumatic blackhead treatment

For teenage DS

So far he's tried

washes - non abrasive
a cleanser + muslin cloth
Philosophy - the two stage 'scrub' (it;s a gentle Vit C with a second stage activator)
those strips (which do nothing )
one of those extractors (which he bellyaches about using)

His skin isn't oil, just over his nose. Forehead and chin are fine. But it's really bad on his nose.

He's got Quinoderm cream on now.
I'm > Hmm

The witch hazel I use is from Neals Yard and has no alcohol and is very gentle as its a water not pure witch hazel - which is far too strong on skin.

I don't think any of the harsh lotions and cleansers do any good at all. Get a microfibre face cloth from Bravura (I think?) to keep the top layer of skin exfoliated and free from dead cells that clog up the pores, do some hot oil cleansing, (research which blend of iols to use for congested skin) do lots of steaming, and some very gentle extraction with clean hands and the right tools - a blackhead remover and some sharp surgical tweezers. But if they don't want to come out don't force them - just keep steaming and exfoliating and eventually they'll work their way to the surface for removal.

I also use Liz Earle hot cloth cleansing to exfoliate which is lovely

I second/third the neutrogena hydrating spot treatment. Not the cleansers though, I found them very harsh. Any gentle cleanser like cetaphil will do.

But I'm afraid I would offer cash for extraction privileges Grin Prevention up to a point is possible but extraction is the only way to get rid of the gunk that's already there as well as being lots of fun.

A large number of people with spots or spot prone skin don't get on with Liz Earle hot cleansing
Also I think that hot water as requested for this product isn't great for skin....might be going mad with that though...

crispy I was pretty sure that witch hazel can be far too astringent for many and almost always contains alcohol. If you are sure Neal's Yard doesn't I'm sorry, I thought it did.

Clarisonic with the deep pore cleansing head and a la roche posay cleanser. 1 minute twice a day.

clinique for men scuffing lotion after a wash with the neutrogena face wash that doubles as a mask too, tea tree oil spray is great for getting rid of back spots in just days.

RonaldMcDonald · 09/03/2014 11:54

clinique scruffing lotion would remove blardy nail varnish!!!

tea tree oil can be really great for spots for some people though but I guess it depends how it is applied...

I have Cetaphil cleanser ( Costco, large bottles, not 'girly' looking ).
It might work used with a Muslin cloth instead of Liz Earle (I'm using Superdrug Radiance at the moment)

Mad - cash is the only language my DS understands, but even that wasn't enough to convince him .
(I'm going to ask for a refund on DS. It cannot be so that I have a non-spot attacking teenager)
