I'm 31. Can I wear this outfit?

stylefruits help much appreciated! I would wear with converse (low cut).

The outfit is for a night out with dh in London, going for a meal somewhere local to wherever our hotel is and then to the theatre but the theatre involves lots of walking and I need flats if not trainers.

I'm thinking this kind of outfit or a midi floaty kind of dress with ballet pumps? I've lost all sense of style right now. Am I on any kind of track?..help much appreciated.

I'm tall and size 10-12 (ok more on the 12 right now but in 3 weeks hopefully more 10) just below shoulder length thick hair brown with highlights and I've just come out of a long readjustment process, I've embraced the pale and am rejecting all fake tan. Any more info needed please ask and thank you!!!

I don't like dresses that cover my shoulders too much as they make me look quite broad...my upper half is better than my lower half. The dresses you linked to look lovely just not on me I don't think.

I have boots I wear a lot in the daytime ankle boots which are more flattering than they look in this pic.

I have a few pairs of ballerina flats and am not against buying some more...or other flats which would suit a nice dress.

I would say my budget is up to around £70 but I was trying to go for cheaper options.

as for jackets I have the much maligned parka, a denim, a boyfriend coat with speckles in, purple trench, a few blazers...pink, black and orange and my duvet coat which keeps me warm but I hope to not have to wear!

sorry, just seen you don't want coverage over shoulders, will have another look, slip dresses then?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2014 17:19

Would a skirt and top be better?

working3jobs · 02/03/2014 17:25

lots of pretty cami tops around, put with a skirt /shorts

BillyBanter · 02/03/2014 17:26

Mutton sleeves are meant to be quite good for broad shoulders. I think the idea is the shoulder looks like it ends where the puffy bit starts. I have broad shoulders. I don't have anything mutton sleeved though so can't vouch for it.

I'm older than you and no style icon. Also I don't tend to spend in the price range in your OP but how about something like this over a black thermal top the black will minimise the breadth of shoulder, probably...

Wear with leggings/jeggings and your ankle boots you linked to. you could probably even wear the cardi you put in your OP.

BillyBanter · 02/03/2014 17:27

your parka could go over it too.

You'll freeze. Thats a very summery outfit. Some years you could have snow at the end of march.

From those I like the lace print dress, will it make me look like the model? That would please me. I also really like the denim dress from topshop and the satin tea dress but I think the satin tea dress might be a bit short!

What would you suggest with the denim dress? tights and boots?

Shorts scare me, I would absolutely wear a skirt and cami or cami dress. Would a cami dress, cardigan, tights and boots be acceptable or would I look like I'm trying to be a teen?

Billy I forgot to say - I have been before (a couple of weeks ago) with a friend and when I got home immediately booked to take DH. It was one of the best experiences I think I've ever had, I made sure we split up and it was 3 hours of pure selfish escapism and with 2 dc's I'm desperate to go back and get that again, it made me feel about 10 years younger.....probably why I'm trying to dress the same way Grin.

I went with a group and we all split up and the conversations afterwards were amusingly confused as we compared notes. Scenes obviously didn't appear in chronological order.

Cowboys? What cowboys? I didn't see any cowboys.

The woman whose child died. Who? What?

At one point I found myself entirely alone with what seemed to be a congregation of scarecrows at a funeral. I ran downstairs sharpish. It got a bit creepy at times. Grin

RalphRecklessCardew · 02/03/2014 19:18

I'd say that outfit would be fine for Drowned Man. You'll be running enough to stay warm.

BillyBanter · 02/03/2014 19:18

I found the mask a bit sweaty though. :(

Mumraathenoisylion · 02/03/2014 19:22

Yes the mask is sweaty...5yo dd seems to love it though and keep putting it on which is fun in the night when we think she's asleep and then some small girl in a nightie with a venetian death mask walks through the door.

I found myself strangely drawn to the scarecrow funeral and spent most of my time on the top two floors. Apparently it is all on hour loops so depending on where you go you may not see it in chronological order.

Yes, I got quite hot last time so that's why I'm looking for something comfy and cool. It may be freezing outside but I definitely won't be.

i think the denim dress with your boots and tights would be fine, similar style but warmer than original idea?

this with tube skirt(long or short) and boots?

cafecito · 02/03/2014 22:17

eh? I like it!!

Joey8 · 03/03/2014 11:21

I love that outfit! And you could totally wear it! But I agree - wrong season, you would be freezing.

I would wear a dress, tights, boots and a cardigan...plus my coat! Or a nice looking and warm enough jacket.

Something like these ideas:

Mumraathenoisylion · 03/03/2014 12:08

I love all of those looks Joey but I need to be in something a bit cooler as I'll be walking around inside for 3 hours and it gets quite warm. Not sure about the cami top.

When I went I wore a leather mini skirt, opaque tights, ballet flats, 3/4 sleeve cotton jersey top and a big scarf. Was warm and comfy, and a scarf helps your mates to recognise you!

Saw a fab faux leather mini the other day in River Island - www.riverisland.com/women/skirts/mini-skirts/Cream-high-shine-mini-skirt-650873. Could work with navy/chocolate opaques and maybe a floaty cold-shoulder top? www.revolveclothing.com/michael-stars-34-sleeve-cold-shoulder-v-neck-in-marlin/dp/MICH-WS3273/?AID=10568535&PID=2687457&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=cj&utm_content=10568535&utm_campaign=2687457&cvosrc=affiliate.cj.2687457
