made to measure shoes

This is going to sound very self indulgent but I just wandered if any of you had any experience of made to measure shoes. I have very wide feet and as a result have terrible trouble finding any shoes to fit let alone ones I actually want to wear. I am currently sitting here with cut and sore heels and sides of feet after wearing a pair of shoes supposedly designed for wide feet. My own fault as I trotted off to work in them yesterday and didn't take a back up pair for when the pain began. I have tried lots of high street wide fit shoes but they are no good. I am considering made to measure shoes. Anyone done this? What did you think? Was it worth it? Where to look?

Thanks

Surely the ones in Evans are wide enough?

florenceuk · 10/08/2006 22:39

No experience but I think it's a great idea - i have tiny feet and am always on the look out for shoes that fit, and have wasted many ££s on ones that don't. This company is based in London: selve - although a pair of pumps is £250+!! you will wear them forever hopefully.

Alternatively Duo claim to do width-fitting shoes - and may go large enough for you: duo shoes ?

Thank you. My feet are 25.5cms wide. Duo go up to 25 which may be ok so I shall try them. So annoying. My feet are like plates.

I was absolutely agog at the thought of someones feet being 25.5cm wide . Poor poor woman thinks I.
Until I open the duo site, find out how to measure foot width and discover mine are 29cm. Suddenly all my sympathy ebbs away.....

I had a pair of made to measure sandals once. I bought them from a small cobbler in Cluny in France. They were (still are after 15 years!) the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn
They were expensive for the time but no-where near as pricey as florence is suggesting. Don't know of any other places in UK though.
Good luck

29cm! Surely you have the same problem. Glad I am not the only one. He he he.

The woman who made my wedding shoes does custom work and is actually quite reasonable. Not sure if she just uses custom fabrics on a standard last (which is what's in demand for weddings but would be no good for you), but it's worth getting in touch and asking - I'll digout her email address.

the email I had for her was [email protected] but I'm not sure if she uses it any more.

Thank you very much. I will get in touch with her.

Oh I do Micegg, I do.
However, I have just been out this morning and bought two very nice pairs of flatties from Evans for work. Have you tried there? Tell me that isn't where you got the foot shredders from?
Had bad experience with Shoe Tailor, although I do understand there are a few flipper-footed amongst us Mumsnetters who do use it with no complaint.

I think DUO would be fine for you. I love their new ankle boot selection, so sweet! They come in wider sizes too. www.duoshoes.co.uk/width_fitting_shoes/ankle/olivia
