Sephora US site now shipping to the UK

As the title says really!

Shipping is £10 all in for orders over £75 and apparently someone said a few brands are excluded.

I'm quite pleased about this, mainly for the mixed brand gift boxes they do which aren't usually available in Sephora France.

There's a couple of things I'm quite keen to try and because of the novelty factor I have made an order. However, I don't think it's something I'm going to be doing regularly. I'm actually quite put off that it's a bit of a hassle to return anything you don't want or are allergic to and you don't get the £10 delivery charge returned.
Also, it would have been more tempting 5 or 10 years ago but I think we're pretty spoilt for choice on the beauty front these days.

Lighthousekeeping · 05/03/2014 12:08

There hasn't been one in the UK for at least 7 years. There used to be a giant one in Brent Cross but it just never took off. I personally can't buy anything here that I know is much cheaper over there. Although that doesn't happen as much now.

alexheartbeauty · 05/03/2014 13:06

Yes, prices have evened out a lot due the exchange rate. But when something is more expensive here than there I won't buy it either. It just makes me feel like I'm being ripped off. For instance, I only buy from the Gap when they issue the 30% off vouchers.

Lighthousekeeping · 05/03/2014 13:12

Yep. And my nieces know the won't get any Holister unless I'm going on holiday. I kind of like that aspect tbh. It keeps it a novelty.

MorrisZapp · 05/03/2014 13:12

If you really fancy an order despite the international price adjustment, why not split an order with a friend? Or post here, or on the Sali Hughes site. Your workmates or FB mates? Somebody will want something!

Me and my sister have been buying 'a Clarins each' at bonus time for years :)

I used to go to the USA every year on hols, but don't want to take DS long haul. I don't mind paying the odd high postage fee for things I want from the USA, as it's so very much cheaper than flying there :)

MorrisZapp · 05/03/2014 13:15

Personally I'd rather get a parcel from Ulta. Go to their site and view their 'weekly ad'. They don't ship anywhere, boo hoo.

Lighthousekeeping · 05/03/2014 13:43

The more you order the higher the tax is so I don't think it makes much difference who you order with?

MorrisZapp · 05/03/2014 15:03

Sounds a bit rubbish then. Maybe we should all just charter a plane, take empty suitcases and go maaaaaad...

Monty27 · 05/03/2014 15:19

Yes it was a long time ago, didn't know they absconded.

alexheartbeauty · 06/03/2014 11:25

AppleYumYum-I just mentioned Rose's Beauty Store and this forum on my post about what I bought from Sephora! Thank you very much for letting us know about it.

Goodness me you like your high end products! I couldn't spend £75 on three things unless I really needed it. I saw the Marc Jacobs stuff when I was there. Lovely packaging but it's over the top expensive. I wonder what Sephoras own brand is like?

alexheartbeauty · 06/03/2014 21:37

I do like high end stuff but hardly ever splash out on it. I think some things are worth spending on and some aren't. My favourite skincare brands are Olay Regenerist and LRP and I always wait until it's on offer at boots. I haven't been tempted by Marc Jacobs because it looks so over priced for what it is. Same goes for Tom Ford and Burbury. However, I am tempted to get an Armani blush as the shades are so good!
Here's a reddit thread on what's good and bad from Sephora's own brand. Reading through it looks like you have to pick carefully. I think Jane from British Beauty Blogger ordered one of their palettes which I'm sure she'll review.

The Sephora order I made on Monday arrived today which I thought was quick. Have to say it wasn't packaged that nicely.

bottleofbeer · 07/03/2014 21:20

Shame p&p is so much. Their own brand eyeshadow is way better than any I've ever had, no matter what the brand.

CecyHall · 07/03/2014 21:39

I got a Sephora palette recently, I like it but there is a lot of fall out, I find it really hard to apply neatly.

I like my Laura Metviet one from Sephora bought as one of their specials . Now that would be worth ordering.

alexheartbeauty · 07/03/2014 22:04

£10 for shipping is a lot but it is coming from the US. Selfridges charges £6 just for delivering inland which I think is truly outrageous.

Lighthousekeeping · 07/03/2014 22:38

I think the poster means that having to spend £75 just to get the £10 shipping is a lot. More outrageous is the tax.

alexheartbeauty · 07/03/2014 23:55

Do you mean Laura Mercier? I've been looking up Metviet to see what I'm missing out on put the results came back as Mercier. The tax is high because it's the UK rate of VAT that is being added on, plus another 3% according to my calculations.
I suppose a small consolation is that that money's going to our government.

Sparklysilversequins · 08/03/2014 00:05

Bath and Bodyworks is on that Cosmopolitan list. My favourite ever shop. Gorgeous stuff in there.

Lighthousekeeping · 08/03/2014 00:17

Bloody spell check!

Didn't we used to have Bath and Body works here around the same time as Sephora? It just disappeared.

alexheartbeauty · 08/03/2014 00:30

This must be the Cosmo list you mean: www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/_mobile/beauty-hair/news/trends/beauty-products/9-american-beauty-brands-we-wish-were-available-in-the-uk
I hadn't seen it before I just looked up now.
I don't remember a Bath and Body Works shop here but that doesn't mean there wasn't one.

Lighthousekeeping · 08/03/2014 00:36

Yes the list is on the first page. I remember something very similar in Watford Shopping centre. It always had loads of offers on. I get it mixed up with Bath Bed and Beyond for dome reason. It just shut one day. Like Sephora in Brent Cross.

alexheartbeauty · 08/03/2014 00:47

I also get it confused with Bed, Bath and Beyond. It's the really big store in Lower Manhatten if memory serves.
