how much do you spend on yourself a month?

I don't think I spend a huge amount: make up from boots when it runs out (concealer, foundation, mascara, lipstick, blush), perfume is a gift at xmas for mil, clothing when needed but no labels (items usually under £40 or far less/high st - or if a more ££ item usually a gift), hair cut/highlights when absolutely needed (tried going back to natural colour to save money or use home dye - both of which were a disaster!), The odd massage when my back can't take the lugging about of a double buggy/holding baby any longer and I have turned into a hunchback (2 in last 6 months), maybe one or two pedicures in the summer (to turn the hooves I can't improve at home into baby feet)...I think I am pretty low maintenance but maybe I could be saving money?

A baby & toddler and being on mat leave is tightening my belt, but equally I want to look presentable!

So I am being nosey...

How much do you spend on yourself and what do you spend it on!? Or money saving tips please!

£200 a month on clothes
Sportswear/running shoes, which are bought as and when needed - maybe £500 a year
Haircut £60 every 2 months
Make up - £15 a month

I don't do beauty treatments or nail bars, it's not my thing.

HelloBoys · 24/02/2014 15:52

amber I don't think it's a terrible thing to make you look closely at spending!

I've got 2 camps friends/relatives - 1 lot hate shopping and rarely buy, though SIL does like clothes just hates shopping!

Then you have me and some friends who are fine with shopping but I do when bored!

HelloBoys · 24/02/2014 15:54

Snowdown I'm same as you rarely do beauty salons and its either special occasion or summer (pedis).

I do get eyebrows threaded sometimes more often sometimes less.

AmberNectarine · 24/02/2014 16:03

About £600pm - a lot I suppose, but we can afford it so I don't feel too bad.

I spend around GBP 200 on my hair every 2 months.

Around GBP 50 on my nails and eyebrows a month.

Probably splurge once a year on around GBP 120 on makeup.

Have irregular massages maybe 200 per year max.

Was spending about GBP 200 a month in Zara (never buy expensive clothes) but am on a spending ban as i have so much unworn stuff in my wardrobe and haven't bought anything since christmas.

I wouldn't count skin care stuff but it probably works out max GBP 20 a month.

God when you look at it like that I should spend more.

Oh and I just had botox for the first time that was GBP 120 isn for 11s only.

HelloBoys · 24/02/2014 16:11

amber if you can afford it that's ok!

I don't spend that much but i certainly buy clothes. Cab afford but it's not good for me and fills a void.

rookiemater · 24/02/2014 16:13

So for me :

Hair - Cut once every 6-8 weeks, with that being replaced by a cut and colour every 3-4 months, works out around £40 per month, although I did a groupon cheapie for my last colour

Beauty parlour stuff - £0 on massages or facials, I have a bikini wax once every 6-8 weeks at £10-12 and occasionally get my eyebrows waxed at £10

Make up - trying to cut back on this at the minute, I do have a fondness for BB palettes, but only once a year, am trying to keep to £10 a month at the minute.

Skincare/Haircare - Again trying to cut back, used to use Clarins, so probably about £120 a year but have changed to Simple so should be less this year

Clothes - probably around £100-200 per month, but again have cut back.

Gosh I should be getting higher spends that DH - it costs a lot to be a woman !

Saurus72 · 24/02/2014 16:18

Shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/body butter etc - about £20/month
Make-up - I wear it every day, and buy expensive brands that seem to last ages. I would say an average £15/month
Hairdressers - £100 every couple of months
Clothes/shoes/bags - I would estimate an average of £200/month, but I buy way more in the sales than in other months.
Contact lenses - £30/month
Gym - £30/month

My spending isn't evenly spread on a monthly basis though - I tend to, for example, spend £100 at the Bobbi Brown counter, then not have to buy anything for 6 months. I do the same for shower gel and body butter (if I spot a good deal at a L'Occitane outlet store say, I stock up and then I might not have to buy anything for another year).

I don't go to spas or beauticians, and have a massage very very rarely - possibly once a year.

AmethystMoon · 24/02/2014 16:28

Not sure I will want to add this up but anyway,
Hair is £75 - £100 every 7 weeks depending on whether it's a cut and semi or cut and highlights.
Hair products £70 every 3-4 months
Face cleanser, moisturiser and ton of acne prevention/ treatment potions is about £100 every 3 months
Make up about £ 50 every 3 months
Shoes and boots varies as I am trying to invest in quality that will last and look after them properly so about £300 per year
Clothes I think varies wildly each month but I think averages about £150 per month maybe more.....again though I am now buying quality over quantity and working towards a smaller more classic wardrobe which I wear more often
Handbags varies, I bought a Mulberry for £400 last year but so far just £19 on an evening clutch from Coast ( reduced from £55 in the sale Smile) which I need this year.
Probably one pedicure per year if that and maybe one or two back massages for the same reason as OP so £100 per year
Eyebrow threading £5 every 2-3 weeks
General lotions and potions about £15 per month (body lotion, shower gel, shave foam, hand cream and so on)
Good grief!

ClaraFox · 24/02/2014 16:32

loads. too much probably but it's my money and I like treating myself.

I normally buy make up and clothes.

ClaraFox · 24/02/2014 16:35

amber - I hate these threads too Grin

I can't put a price on it because I'd be too embarrassed.

I see.no shame in treating yourself to whatever you fancy, providing your children aren't going hungry or whatever.

Apatite1 · 24/02/2014 16:48

If you can afford it, without sacrificing the more important things, then why ever not?

Puddles1234 · 24/02/2014 17:38

Monthly Spending:

Gym - £190
Spa/Beautician - £160 Deep Cleansing Facial, £198 Hot Stone Massage, £168 PreNatal treatment.
Hair - £75 per week on Blowdrys (I don't colour my hair it is naturally black.
Nails - £60.00
Makeup - Varies. Anything from £150 to £400 if I am buying a certain collection.
Skincare - £200/£300
Clothes/Shoes/Accessories - Varies. If it is the start of the new season ie SpringSummer 2014 I will spend £10000 + but month to month its normally a few thousand. Handbags can be a few thousand though so some months more than some.

bunnymother · 24/02/2014 17:39

I love these threads. Well, I do as soon as I see someone who spends more than me, then I relax. And go shopping Smile. No, seriously, it's interesting and I don't care what others spend, but I do feel strangely relieved to see others spend what I do and, in some cases, more. I admit that that does not make sense.

aylesburyduck · 24/02/2014 18:01

I don't actually spend a great deal. I always get a big bottle of perfume from my mum at Christmas, so that lasts me the year and I buy a couple of bottle of Avon Herve Leger a year for work, so probably £30 a year on perfume.

I also get a lot of shower gel and bubble bathy bits at Christmas so I use those up before I buy anything, so it's usually July before I buy shower gel. I'd guess £60 a year on shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, bubble bath and body lotion.

Hair - I colour and cut it myself - £6.00 a month for the colour

Make up - I dread to think..... probably £20 a month (eek!)

Clothes and Shoes - probably £70 a month, but only because I am in the middle of a diet and I shrink out of stuff before it wears out (eBay is my friend)

Scary when I think I am spending £100 a month on myself. I am sure I could cut back.

MarshaBrady · 24/02/2014 18:05

I don't keep track. I mostly use freelance £ which fluctuates. So I tend to buy lots of stuff then have a break.

I do spend a fair bit on hair because Aveda is expensive.

Hi op, I am also saving at the mo due to a pending maternity leave. I usually spend a fair bit on clothes but as I don't fit into anything that money is easy to save. Re. Saving on make up, shop around. Amazon stock loads of high street brands and some ae up to half price so much cheaper than Boots. Also, make the most of online discount codes - I try to not pay full price on anything but usually wait for a code.

cherryhealey · 24/02/2014 19:38

Clothes 200 a month

Hair 50 every five weeks

Cosmetics average 20 per month

Toiletries 60 per month

santamarianovella · 24/02/2014 19:40

I don't spend the exact amount each month,it varies, sometimes its a lot, sometimes not that much.

Hair about £38 on shampoo and conditioner, and £40 every 3 months on styling products.

Haircuts: cut and colored when I visit my parents,as I find the hairdressers here can't manage to cut it nicely,so about € 200 every 3 months.
I don't do mani/ Padi anymore,so that saved me loads, and will stop having facials,
Beauty products,my cleanser is cheap, and just switched brands, much cheaper than previous one.
Makeup and fragrance :just when I ran out of it,maybe £250 each time.

Clothes and accessories,a lot Blush,

SnowBells · 24/02/2014 19:45

Normally not too much. Maybe £100-150?

However, this month, I'm on a big shopping spree - making use of the sales, and it will be more like £1k.
