So what can I wear on my feet other than trainers that I will be able to walk miles in day in day out? Do I get some of those walking sandals??!!! I want comfort over style but obviously don't want to look like a hideous frump everyday!

I found proper trainers and socks were best for me. Sandal's were okay but tended to rub by the straps but lanacane anti-chafing gel and blister plasters helped.
I'd agree with changes of foot wear, being prepared for rain and having rest days.
If I was going again I would get us all those Brita water bottles with built in filters, as the water from the fountains tastes foul, but you do need to keep drinking.

Sparklysilversequins · 24/02/2014 06:14

Skechers GO walk. They were supremely comfortable and I probably wouldn't have managed so well without them.

jerryfudd · 24/02/2014 07:57

Nearly all the Americans wore crocs - which seemed a good idea for the water rides

LordPalmerston · 24/02/2014 08:18

Christ. How unfit are you lot?!

Skivvywoman · 24/02/2014 08:22

It's not being unfit it's having Comfy feet for all the walking in that heat

Facebaffle · 24/02/2014 08:24

I don't think it's so much the walking but the standing up all day.

I wore Fitflops, they were comfy and coped well with the rain and water rides. I found trainers were too hot.

LordPalmerston · 24/02/2014 08:39

Ah well. Prob. We wore hats and scarves some days we were there.

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 24/02/2014 08:58

Wow I didn't expect a thread about footwear to provoke such debate Grin

I don't find flip flops or converse particularly comfortable as no instep support so I think I will invest in some structured sandals/flip flops and take my trainers.

I went to Disney as a teen and remember walking forever hence my concern but I am relieved to see that as an adult people don't think it's that far.

Guide book says between 5 and 12 miles a day in the parks

Felt like more!!

LordPalmerston · 24/02/2014 09:07

No way !

RufusTheReindeer · 24/02/2014 10:15

Yes way!

RufusTheReindeer · 24/02/2014 10:16

That's according to the guidebook anyway

Did you think it was more or less?

We are on our feet for hours!!!

iseenodust · 24/02/2014 10:25

You walk or stand for hours if you want to get the most out of your days & evenings! The combination of heat, humidity and the fact it's all on hard surfaces means planning for comfort is wise. I think Disney et al miss a trick in not having some quiet seating areas, queues might be a bit shorter if people took 20mins out to chill.

Vickiyumyum · 24/02/2014 10:37

fitflops, or Birkenstock gizeh or Madrid. Although saying that each time I end up buying cheap flip flops from one of the Disney stores and wearing those for the whole time I'm there, then leave them in he bin as usually falling apart.

I've been lots of times now and the fitlfops or birkenstocks are the only ones I would contemplate taking with me. I find you don't dress up for the evening, just usually grab something on the way back from the parks before getting to the hotel. The first time I made the mistake of taking loads of maxi dresses, strappy sandals etc, now I take shorts, vest type tops, camis, etc with flips flops and maybe one outfit for smarter wear. Havent worn it yet.

There is lots of walking, think how big the parks are for a start, walking between each ride and land is a fair distance. The first time I went to florida as an adult, I was overweight and on slimming world, I did not stick to plan at all and spent the three weeks eating whatever I liked drinking full fat fizzy drinks. I came home lighter than I went, by over 7lb! I put that down to all the walking. as swimming was really just floating in the pool and lazy rivers so no exercise there.

We're off again last two weeks in august, can't wait. Saving my shopping money already.

Vickiyumyum · 24/02/2014 10:39

oh yes crocs flip flops are good as doesn't matter if they get wet, but buy them over there. there is an outlet shop at one end of international drive.

StairsInTheNight · 24/02/2014 10:45

Crocs flip flops. Lovely and comfy and supportive. agree it's no more walking than a day trip to Bluewater though!

Most people here are wearing trainers and shorts. Be prepared that the women in the waterparks wear those arse hanging out costumes. I wasn't expecting that!

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 24/02/2014 13:33

Ooh interesting I didn't know Crocs made anything other than those hideous clog things, their flip flops look great.

stairs what on earth are arse hanging out costumes?!! I cant see my buying one of those unless Florida would like a solar eclipse this summer!!!

I have the adrina flip flops and they actually look nice too, as well as being comfy. Is Disney miracle.

There are normal costumes on show as well, hanging, but a lot of the women and almost all teenagers wear these costumes cut at top of the arse - not quite a thong but not far off. So when you look around it is a sea of arse.

Very disconcerting.

Bunbaker · 24/02/2014 21:02

I have these Sketchers Go Walk. They aren't stylish, but they are even more comfortable than my slippers. I feel like I am walking on a cushion they are so comfortable.

I wore them all around Dubrovnik last year. I also bought these Earth Spirit sandals which were also unbelievably comfortable.

I would have said 5 miles in a day, tops
Americans hate to walk ime and this also extends to rides
We did go in September and so the lines were shorter which possibly meant that the time on our feet was reduced
I thought it was fine and honestly the shoe thing wasn't an issue
