To kit me out for my new job. It's an office job - all male (except for me, when I start!). Smart casual.

I've been reading the thread about effortlessly stylish and chosen the following but want to be sure I've got it right before placing the order.

I'm blonde, early 30's, 5'4" and a size 12.

Ankle Boots

riding Boots

Skinny Jeans

Wet look leggings

Tights

Dress

Shirt

Jumper

Print Jumper

Navy Blazer

Black blazer

Scarf

Scarf

Bag

I've never worn skinny jeans or wet look leggings before Blush.

Ah. Sorry.

boots or the ones linked to earlier - leather so much better quality than those in the OP, I'm sure.

scottishmummy · 23/02/2014 18:07

No wet look leggings to work.youll look trampy

Oreocrumbs · 23/02/2014 18:15

I have just bought this dress.

It is very flattering on, and great for my smart/casual work. It dresses up and down nicely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2014 18:21

Wonder if these might work, as a leggings replacement? Too skinny?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2014 18:21

Nope. Out of stock - ignore.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/02/2014 19:19

Agree no to the leggings. The bag is expensive for fake leather, would you not be better spending the 70 on other things?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/02/2014 19:26

Also on looking back there are a lot of accessories and not many outfits. How many days a week will you be working? Do you have existing work clothes or is this all you will have? I could see spare tops and trousers being more useful than two pairs of boots and two blazers where one of each would do for example. Or scarves could be picked up for a couple of quid in primark, asos, lisa angel, ebay etc freeing up some of the voucher for more basics.

Puddles1234 · 23/02/2014 19:33

No to wet look leggings. If you have a casual day you could wear leather trousers. They look chic with a good quality blazer and neck scarf like an Hermes one paired with some simple stiletto heeled pumps.

Ankle boots are smart but only when they have a heel. A Cuban/Block heel isn't very smart in my opinion.

For office wear what about Pencil dresses and pencil skirts. Trousers should be cigarette (skinny) these look great with stiletto heeled pumps.

If you want flats try flat pointed toe flats they look smart with trousers.

For smart/casual I think a block or Cuban heel would be fine - depends what they are worn with.

I'm really struggling to find decent fabric on the Very site but think cheap blazers etc will turn out to be a false economy.

Viviennemary · 23/02/2014 19:39

Wet look jeggings for an office job. Absolutely not!

Vickiyumyum · 23/02/2014 19:47

I'd go for something plainer that you can accessorise with scarves cardigans jackets etc rather than printed items. You can add printed to your wardrobe later once you've built up basics. this one

Vickiyumyum · 23/02/2014 19:50

even this one can be smartened up. Knee high boots opaque tights a patterned scarf. Good for a casual office.

I work in a casual office but skinny jeans leggings in any style or too right trousers would be a no no.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2014 19:55

I wear these trousers a lot with a long, loose top and a blazer/Chanel-esque jacket.

Merriboo · 23/02/2014 20:37

Don't go for skinnies/leggings(especially if you haven't worn them before)
As others have said, black trousers and another neutral colour, a cigarette shape can be dressed up one down with heels, brogues, flats, sandals as well as working with tops you already have.
I wouldn't go for 2 jackets right now- you probably won't have them on in the office.
As for boots, I know the weather is still pretty bad right now but it's nearly march and the job is in an office- I would be thinking more towards spring summer- brogues, slips ons, slipper/ballet flats if you aren't keen on heels.
What skirt shape suits you- no point in going pencil if you feel uncomfy with a fitted shape-fluted/flared much more forgiving.

Merriboo · 23/02/2014 21:23

Think of relaxed office rather than too casual.

Though, like pencil skirts, it depends how comfy you are with a fitted skirt. (They do have a choice of pencils that's could form a good base)
This is a classic that's a bit more forgiving

Plus a pair of classic courts for smarter days

Then spend the rest on simple classics - t shirts, shirts etc. not sure of the value of the scarves that you chose- to me they are more outerwear-maybe a statesman necklace or 2- not necessarily from here

Miren · 23/02/2014 23:58

It's a very small, very relaxed office with just a handful of staff… I went for the job last year and wore a maxi skirt sandals, vest top and fitted denim jacket to the 'interview' and it felt right. I love a lot of these suggestions, and thank you all for links etc, but most I feel would be too smart.

OP posts:
Miren · 23/02/2014 23:59

I have a couple pairs of smart trousers and a few basics, including black courts already, so this isn't from scratch as such.

OP posts:
Miren · 24/02/2014 00:02

Thank you for pointing out that the bag isn't leather! How about this one?

OP posts:
singaporeswing · 24/02/2014 05:32

How about cigarette trousers instead of leggings?

Give a similar silhouette but are more workwear.

HelloBoys · 24/02/2014 10:38

The Tula bag is nice.

Why not just 1 pair smarter trousers?

You could also order skinny jeans and try but maybe opt for black. Sure oasis have some.

frankietwospots · 24/02/2014 11:36

OP, just saw this on the promotional codes board and thought I would post in case it saves you a few pennies!

£30 off if you spend £60 or more, and open a new Very credit account. Code is 3XECN. Expires 28th March 2014.

Just remember to close your credit account after you've got your order if you don't want to use it again.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/02/2014 17:00

I like the shape of the Tula bag, but not the colour.
