Finding THE foundation ...

I have decided that 2014 is the year as It must exist. Price isnt really the issue cos if its great I will willing spend the money.

Ive tried lots over the years and now Im mid 40s and would like to have a beautiful natural look but look good. Frankly it could be too late and without Lisa Eldridge on tap every am Im on a losing wicket but ..... Maybe its out there ?

I have pale skin but I would tan very well if
I didnt use sun protection ...I have large pigmentation down sides of face and Im told yellow undertones. Was considering looking at Suddq foundation but cannot find anywhere that sells it near me,

Any ideas or should I just give up ?

NARS Sheer Glow. It's lovely, excellent coverage but feels really light and looks all glowy. Good pale colour selection with yellow, pink or neutral undertones.

I like Lancôme 24 hour teint idole. Very good for pale skin tones as they actually have a few pale shades to choose from!

Most places will give you a generous amount to take home and sample. You just have to ask. I'd go to a department store that have a good range and try a few, then take some samples home.

I have just bought the new lancome one. It comes with a little pop of concealer in the lid. Very pleased.

I really like the bourjois healthy mix serum. I bought it ages ago and thought it was nice but not that special till I bought a buffing brush. Now it just looks gorgeous if I do say so myself. I'm quite pale and my skin is quite good but I'm quite red round my nose which is why I need foundation. The buffing brush is actually a really cheap knock-off from eBay of the real techniques buffing brush. That one is only available in a set which I didn't want to pay for when I only want 1 brush.

Anyway I only use a v small amount of foundation, apply with the brush and voila, hello gorgeousnessGrin. The shades are quite pale and yellow based.

Ive very pale and very yellow and have just discovered paul and joe cream fluid foundation in 00 I think the shade is called alabaster. Ive only been wearing it for 4 days but it seems to be a perfect colour match and is not irritating my very dry sensitive skin.

All the foundations mentioned above are too dark or not yellow enough for me.mI'm very yellow toned.

I am your age and it has been my mission to find 'my' foundation this year too. I've settled on two, a Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser for everyday and the Estee Lauder Daywear 'light' version - it binds beautifully to my skin and isn't as drying as the original ELDW.

If it helps I have a similar skin to you and I'm a pale 02 shade. 'Nude' in the LMTM.

My main find has been the 'expert face brush' from Real Techniques - Asda/Superdrug/Boots - with which to apply it. Genius!

Suqqu is available at Selfridges and very hard to get a sample of by post.

Isandri if you're very yellow toned you should try Shu Uemura, they were designed for the Japanese market.

I second nars,Even my dermatologist recommends them,Im olive with neutral (yellowish and pink) tone, so very hard to find perfect match. the medium 3 is perfect for me.
Also the tinted moisturiser is really good too,
They both are very light,and natural looking.
If you live near London,I recommend going to selfridges,I got my color matched there at the nars counter.

Have tried the E lauder one but was a bit too much for me. Looking to try the Nars next.

What is it re the Real Techniques foundation brush ? I have a Bobbi brown brush kit .... would I find this amazingly different .

Will report back to let you know how it goes ....

The RT 'expert' face brush is domed rather than a flat paintbrush-type brush so it really smoothes foundation around/in/over pores for a really flawless finish - on my old face anyway! Grin

I use bare minerals and mix a little with my moisturiser, gives me an even colour tone and can build up if I need a little extra help!

I bought Clarins Skin illusion last week and love it for an easy, natural look. My skin is very freckly and I find foundation hard to get right. The Clairins one gives me a nice glow and smooths my skin tones without covering it all up.

I also got a foundation brush and can't believe I managed so long without one. Somehow I reached my 40's with being aware of them!

there is also the RT stippling brush which is a slightly looser brush. I have both, like both but they give a different finish. The expert I think gives slightly heavier coverage

I'm late 30's with oily skin and I've been searching for 'the one' for the last two or three years. I don't think it exists. 95% of foundations just slide off my face, regardless of primer etc. There are a couple which I quite like, but some days a foundation looks look, and other days it's hopeless. I think it's really hard to recommend a foundation, because everyone's skin is different.

I like Dior Forever. I'm your age and I find the coverage good but it doesn't look heavy or make-upy.

RonaldMcDonald, yes I have. It's not bad at all. Definitely worth a try if you're oily and want a longer lasting foundation.

Def def def try Bobbi Brown. All their foundations are yellow-based (I think). I'm in my 40s, have dry-ish skin and have tried SO many foundations over the years (previous one was estee lauder double wear light but I lived in a warmer country when using that).

I am really happy with Bobbi Brown's moisture rich foundation which cost 30 quid and goes a long, long way. It doesn't settle into fine lines, is not heavy and if you need more coverage you can build it up. Matches my skintone perfectly and feels light when on, like I am not wearing make-up.

I really recommend (if you can) popping along to one of their counters and asking for a 10min 'consultation' with a make-up artist. They are really expert at matching your skin type/colour to foundation and there is absolutely no pressure whatsoever to buy anything if you don't fancy it.
