please help a size 20 hopeless case find a smart outfit for interview

Am a size 20 which is not making this easy! I need a smart, but not too conservative or businessy outfit for a teaching interview. I was hoping for a jacket with a dress but so far most of the dresses I have liked basically look crap. I want something to boost my confidence so am now thinking jacket and skirt, but dont really want to go for black business style suit. Any ideas please.

Thanks for ideas. I am thinking of trying the skater one in black. In fact am going to order three totally different ones (not in the ponte fabric - thanks for that Queen, glad it is not just me!) and see how I get on. They have free delivery and return on at the moment so I suppose I can't lose.

How about a dress like this www.lauraashley.com/archive-dresses/chain-print-jersey-wrap-dress/invt/mda878 with black jacket?

cansu · 16/02/2014 18:43

Oh typical they only have the red skater dress in my size - doesnt go with my colouring.

oh really like the laura ashley but only goes to size 18, will probably be too small,

I bought this from Boden for work (also a teacher) and wear it with either a jacket if I want to be really smart or a cardi. It's really comfortable and makes me feel quite elegant!

EvilTwins · 16/02/2014 18:56

Also have this one Again, v comfy. It's quite heavy and I find it drapes well.

tethersend · 16/02/2014 18:58

Laura Ashley is usually massive. LOVE the chain print. Prefer this though.

RonaldMcDonald · 16/02/2014 19:00

Unsure about the belted style on that tether?

EBearhug · 16/02/2014 19:04

Some good links here.

My last interview suit was from M&S - you could just go for the jacket or dress or skirt or trousers, rather than a whole suit, if you feel that's too formal. They cut size 22 more generously than some other shops, IME, at least on the waist.

myrtleWilson · 16/02/2014 19:14

Agree, don't discount the LA sizing, I find their wrap dress I go down a size...

tethersend · 16/02/2014 19:29

True Ronald, I'd replace the belt.

polyhymnia · 16/02/2014 19:58

Sorry to derail but eviltwins how is the sizing on that first Boden dress? I like the look of it.
Agree on Ponte dresses, A size 6 friend got one from Boden that looked great on her but awful on me at other end of size range!

EvilTwins · 16/02/2014 20:00

I'm a 14 and it's a good fit. I get annoyed with the number of empire line dresses on Boden, as I have quite a defined waist. This is one of the few dresses with a waist at the right place for me!

polyhymnia · 16/02/2014 20:05

So true to size then, not big or small?

EvilTwins · 16/02/2014 20:06

I would say true to size, yes.

Pompbear · 16/02/2014 20:35

I'm your size. skater dresses look awful on me. I would go for a pencil shift dress with a jacket - get a size smaller jacket and wear it open to give you a nice waist. I also tend to wear a full spanx slip to give me a nice silhouette.

Pompbear · 16/02/2014 20:40

sorry cant work out how to link on app!
