Clarisonic Mia 2 - Is it worth the £££?

VillaVillekulla · 11/02/2014 09:29

I've been thinking about getting a Clarisonic. I've read lots of rave reviews but also a few meh reviews. It's a lot of money so I'd appreciate any advice from MNers who've used one. Is it worth it? Will it make my crater like pores disappear? Or will it bring me out in a big spotty rash?

Ooh good post, I'm interested to know too...

VillaVillekulla · 11/02/2014 09:59

I think I need someone to tell me not to buy it EarlGrey. I feel that urge coming on. I may have to make a mad dash to John Lewis at lunchtime to buy one. I'm 90% convinced that the Clarisonic is the answer to all my skin problems.

Ah, not me then. I'll be the one saying run to John lewis, spend that dosh and come back in a week to report on how great it is Grin

alexheartbeauty · 11/02/2014 10:16

I've got one and it is good but I don't think it should be used more than a few times a week. I'd also recommend the Sensitive brush head as it's more gentle.
Some beauty blogger and journalists are saying that they're getting comparable results with the cheaper versions like the Olay one.
I've been using the Konjac sponge recently and found that to be good:

VilliaVilleKulla - what skin problems do you? I bet they're not as bad as you think!

Sorry the link I gave want work. Here it is again. www.iheartbeauty.net/2014/02/the-konjac-sponge-great-new-way-cleanse.html

VillaVillekulla · 11/02/2014 11:04

Ooh thanks. I haven't heard of that sponge.

My main problem is huge pores. I do get the odd spot but nothing too bad. On a bad day I'd tell you my problems are wrinkles, giant pores, excess oil, redness/uneven colour, general lack of radiance/tone/plumpness. On a good day I'd say I suppose my skin's not too bad really - especially with a thick layer of foundation on top Grin

I'm very pleased that I purchased the Mia2. At first I used it every night, but it is not necessary. I noticed when I had a peel that it 'burned' more than usual. It it s a great exfoliator and allows your skincare to work more effectively. I agree to only use the sensitive brush. I'd recommend that you do get one and use it 3 times a week.

alexheartbeauty · 11/02/2014 11:15

It sounds to me like you have very normal skin. When you look at yourself close up you're going to see all these things that others are just not going to notice. Large pores are annoying though and so hard to tackle. Mine on my nose are awful and kind of absorb make up/concealer leaving a kind of mottled effect. Have you tried a glycolic product like Olay Renegerist Elixir? That might help a bit. Also you might get a cinderella effect from an anti-blur primer but on the whole I've found them to be a disappointing.

VillaVillekulla · 11/02/2014 18:45

I have no will power. I went and bought it. I shall report back...

I love mine! I use with Eve Lom cleanser - also excessive £££ - and it has saved my face!

VillaVillekulla · 11/02/2014 20:58

Do you cleanse first then cleanse again with Clarisonic? I'm going to give it a go in a minute if it's charged.

suntodayplease · 11/02/2014 21:13

Villa would love to hear your feedback, been thinking about purchasing one for a while. My skin sounds similar to yours, I'm hoping it is the answer to my pore problem.

VillaVillekulla · 12/02/2014 10:07

So far so good. I had heard you had to charge it for 24 hours before use but I just charged it for a few hours and it seemed to have enough power to use it. I didn't really know what I was doing tbh. I just cleansed normally first (Botanics cleansing balm, cotton wool to wipe off, eye make up remover too), then I put on a bit more cleanser, wet the brush a bit (not sure if that's right or if it's ok to use it dry) and gave my face a good brush! I wasn't sure how hard to press it onto my skin or how quickly I should move it around. Anyway, afterwards I gave my face a wipe with a damp muslin and put on my usual moisturiser.

I have to say my skin seemed very clean and quite taut. I didn't use it this morning because I've read quite a few reviews that say twice a day is too much. I'll give it another go tonight.

It is a lot of £££. If you're thinking of getting one suntodayplease or earlygrey you can get £10 off and free delivery at feelunique with this code 10FEB2014. I got mine at John Lewis. Debenhams do an older version (original Mia, not Mia II) for £99. Might be worth waiting for a Debenhams discount code to come along?

I have a pink clarisonic.... Not sure which number it is. It was great on holiday and gets your skin feeling really clean. But I need a new head for it and just haven't got round to buying one! I was thinking of getting one of ebay , but don't know if they would be the real thing or not. Dilemma

Bonsoir · 12/02/2014 10:18

YES!!!

I adore my Clarisonic Mia 2 and now have the Clarisonic Plus. The body brush has worked wonders with my chest/shoulders/cleavage - my skin is soft and glowing.

VillaVillekulla · 12/02/2014 10:48

You have two Bonsoir?! Envy

I was thinking of using the Mia on my neck and chest. I wonder if it would make my slightly crepey cleavage look more youthful?

Bonsoir · 12/02/2014 10:54

The Plus was a present to my DP from the people at l'Oreal who own Clarisonic! He told them during a meeting about 3 weeks ago that I had one and loved it and lo and behold a freebie arrived two days later Smile.

Bonsoir · 12/02/2014 10:55

I have found that Clarisonic plus really good quality body lotion (Annick Goutal) is amazing for my cleavage.

VillaVillekulla · 12/02/2014 15:32

Ooh I didn't know Annick Goutal did body lotions. I like her perfumes. Something else for me to covet now I've blown all my money on the Clarisonic....

The Champneys one (Boots) is very good. I tested it against my friend's Clarisonic Mia. No difference, except the price!

Pompbear · 12/02/2014 20:35

i use my spare sonic toothbrush from aldi. works a treat!

saganoren · 13/02/2014 11:17

So can you use Clarisonic in the bath/shower

Bonsoir · 13/02/2014 11:23

Yes, it's totally waterproof.

Snog · 14/02/2014 18:05

Dermaflamnel is cheaper and better imo

harrap · 14/02/2014 19:00

I think it's good-I justified the expense by not having facials.
