make up brushes

I have some real techniques make up brushes and they are fab. I would like to keep them that way. how often to you clean yours and what with?

Oh brilliant! I've been given some Tom Ford brushes and I'm very anxious not to ruin them.

So just piggy-backing on your thread OP.

I've never cleaned mine

I wash them in liquid hand soap, rinse them, shake the water out, dry them a bit on a towel then leave them in the sun on a window ledge to dry.

I wash mine with shampoo, (normally do this stage twice), rinse thoroughly, blot on towel and then dry standing upright somewhere warm. Blusher brushes etc will need a bit of fluffing up as they dry.

Clean with gentle shampoo, rinse well, blot away excess liquid, then dry on their sides on paper towels/clean dish towel. I read that brushes should never be left to dry with bristles pointing upwards, as it means water drains into the bit where the bristles are glued in place, doesn't dry quickly, and can loosen bristles over time, even on the most expensive brushes.

Dr Bronner liquid soap is soooo good for cleaning brushes. I used to use baby shampoo but this gets everything much cleaner much quicker (I use all real techniques brushes too). I actually almost enjoy cleaning them now so they get done about once a week.
T K Maxx have it atm for about £5 for a big bottle, ASOS and a few other online stores have it too.
It has loads of different uses other than just for cleaning make up brushes.

wash with mild shampoo and squeeze excess water and lie flat to dry (never let them dry whilst vertical).

My beautician recommends Head and Shoulders shampoo. Dry flat on a towel or kitchen roll. Wash every 4/6 weeks foundation brush more regularly.

Johnson's baby shampoo. It's amazing on my Mac brushes, much better than the Mac brush cleaning liquid - I use less and they are far more conditioned when dry.

Gets them right back to their original colour.
