How much "effort" do you go to for a girl's night out?

I go a bit mad and drive dh round the twist lol

Everytime I go out I buy something new. Try loads of things on and ask dh for his opinion.

Tonight am doing an all over tan and tomorrow my mum will do my hair for me.

Take loads of time over my make up and getting ready.

I probably go out max 6 times a year so I suppose I deserve to feel good about myself!

LOL - not as much as you!

I go out once a week or so though, so the novelty wears off pretty quick!

I wear something nice and do my hair but dont wear make-up, never use self tan etc. Must be doing something right though, cause I dont have to buy my own drinks

Flamesparrow · 04/08/2006 16:34

I do makeup, and try to get my hair looking less hedge-like. I wear what is clean and hides the lumps.

If I am really lucky, I do my nails too.

Blossomhill · 04/08/2006 16:34

my friends are the same as me

Psychomum tends to like to buy something new too - she just likes an excuse to shop

I'm skint

Ooooh blimey - I am a bit ashamed to say that my last girls night out I went in what I had been wearing at work all day - well in my defence I had only been home 40 mins and had to bath and bed dd before babysitter came in that time ! It was either go as I was or be very very late !

But I wouldn't go to the lengths of tanning and getting my hair done - I would have liked to have showered, dried my hair and put clean clothes on - but they would have been casual !

Some of the others were pretty dolled up actually - hadn't really thought about it before !

SS - the benefit of going to all rock clubs etc as a student... I could wear what I felt like, with whatever underwear I felt.

lunavix · 04/08/2006 17:46

lol

When I was in teens, I lived in Australia and the pressure to dress up isn't as strong, plus I very rarely had just girls nights out, we all went out together. Don't think I ever bought anything new, plus house parties were the big in thing in our group.

When I moved to Bournemouth, there was suddenly a lot of pressure not to look a mess - everyone my age was suddenly very skinny with excellent hair perfect nails and a new outfit every time. So I got a job in a clothes shop and spent my earnings there

Now I don't really go on girly nights any more I've only got the one good girly mate and she isn't really into big nights out

Flamesparrow · 04/08/2006 17:47

You never met me in your time in Bournemouth then!

lunavix · 04/08/2006 17:50

lol which rock clubs are you speaking of??? I went to a rather interesting pub (boscombe or pokesdown way) a number of years ago, and I think the rocky type people there put MORE effort in - one rather cute guy was dressed and painted up exactly like brandon lee from the crow!

However a stint working in a bournemouth nightclub ridded me of the need for new clothes.. let's just say there's a very fetching cowboy style uniform shirt Five shifts there a week and I wasn't bothering too hard on the other two nights as I was recognised in the other clubs (same owners )

I started out in Xtreme, but then that closed down, and we headed into The Villa (been sooo many different names over the years), and Club X (which I think is a strip club now!!!). Worked in The Villa/Samsons for about 6 months too.

Some of them do put sooo much effort into their makeup - I was always very bitter that my friend could do his eyeliner better than me . But the difference between those clubs and the normal ones is - no-one cares. Yes, you can do your goth makeup to perfection, or you can turn up in the jeans and top you've been wearing all day and no-one will bat an eyelid. Girls tend to bitch about each other's clothes more in normal clubs/pubs. The only time I did get comments about what I was wearing was when I abandoned my college leaver's ball in search of decent music, and ended up moshing in a full length dress & tie, with (now)DH in his smart suit .

Blossomhill · 04/08/2006 21:35

lol fio ~ I would have thought you liked a good night out

MrsSpoon · 04/08/2006 21:42

Probably more effort than when I go out with DH , in my defence though when going out with DH we have a babysitter coming over so like to make sure things are tidy for her and the kids are fed and almost ready for bed, whereas if I am going out on a girls night DH can do all this (minus making sure things are tidy obviously ).

I wouldn't both with fake tan myself but would wash, blowdry, straighten my hair, put make-up on and take care with my clothes. Wouldn't always buy something new because I have one or two 'going out' items of clothing that usually fit the bill.
