Anyone here used BB Cream? Opinions on it?

My makeup routine has been the same for twenty years: covergirl liquid foundation, maybelline shine-free powder over that, lip gloss, mascara, and some eyeliner on my top lids and brows. That's it.
But I'm beginning to think that maybe it's time to evolve. Maybe the makeup that worked for a 20-year-old me is not the best look for the new, middle-aged me.
Plus, maybe they've invented better stuff in the past two decades.
I'm interested in trying BB cream, in lieu of foundation (and maybe leaving off powder as well; I've heard the cream does the work of both).
I am a bit put off by the lack of color choices in the drug store selection of BB Creams... I have very pale olive skin, and many make-up tones look too pink on me. I'm not sure I'll find my correct shade if the only choices are light, medium, and dark.
Anyway, have you used it and what did you think?
Did it compare favorably to liquid foundation? Worth the money, or is it just another silly fad?

Also this is very bad for your skin I am sure - but I spray hairspray on my face to 'fix' the make-up if I am going out in the evenings.

bunnymother Grin I am all for trying new things but this one definitely isn't worth it. And don't get me started on serums!

bunnymother · 10/02/2014 14:14

What else can I forget about bothering with?? Hopefully eating lots of sugar and drinking lots of coffee is totally fine and changing your diet isn't worth the bother.

Pregnantberry · 10/02/2014 14:20

I had high hopes for them, but all the ones I have tried have always made my skin look oily and orange. I would definitely like to try an east-Asian brand though, it sounds like western ones are bastardized versions. Grin They were actually first recommended to me before they took off here by a friend who lives in Hong Kong and swears by them, and they never make her look orange at all.

Whatfun · 10/02/2014 14:24

Ok Floisme, I will bite. What's the matter with serums? I love a nice serum. Am I wasting my time and money?

Floisme · 10/02/2014 14:24

Sadly, bunnymother I think they've probably got a point about the sugar and the coffee. But whenever it's a new product and there's money to be made then I'm always a bit sceptical.

Floisme · 10/02/2014 14:27

What's the matter with serums?
Well what do they do? Apart from getting you to shell out for two products instead of one? Grin

Whatfun · 10/02/2014 14:33

Won't they make me look like Sophia Loren? I might have to get my mo ey refunded then. Damn.

I have used this one Dr Jart - it looks ok but the colour range is limited.

there's an interesting article (others out there) as to what you want from it.

I just saw what you use. OK to be blunt most people nowadays agree powder is ageing especially on older skins (not saying you're old at all!) Smile

THIS which I got last year would be up your street a cream to powder foundation, Clinique - it lasts for ages good color range:-

if you want to update your look go to Bobbi Brown counter and ask for some tips they are BRILLIANT imo/e.

TulipOHare · 10/02/2014 14:40

I've been using Missha Perfect Cover for the last few weeks and it's brilliant. It covers like foundation but is light to wear, does not feel like I have make-up on, doesn't settle into fine lines. It's just fab. And was v cheap, think it was £5-£6 or something.

Floisme · 10/02/2014 14:56

Thanks for the tip, HelloBoys. I've heard good things about Bobbi Brown and may give them a try. I am not normally a naysayer! I am just highly suspicious of the cosmetics industry with their cod science and their endless stream of wonder products. I think they are feeding off our insecurities and getting nicely rich in the process.

slug · 10/02/2014 15:44

For the frighteningly pale I'm a pale skinned Celt who has kept out of the sun all my life. This does the job.

HelloBoys · 10/02/2014 16:08

Flo - Bobbi Brown are the one company I prefer because:-

a) they give free lessons! and no hard sell on the products AT ALL. Smile

b) they're less scary than MAC and dare I say it - their products are softer, lipsticks less harsh - well imo anyway.

c) also they are flattering.

I think Bobbi being a MA beforehand really helps. They're not cheap but not overly expensive.

And this is from someone who's tried high/low end etc - but generally I don't buy the skincare stuff... mostly because my mum, nana all have good skin, sorry it's down to genes, also staying out of sun (SPF) and reasonable diet etc.

Floisme · 10/02/2014 16:42

Thanks HelloBoys I will put away my scepticism and give them a try Smile
