Did you get your engagement ring made in Hatton Garden?

If so, where did you go?

Recently got engaged and have heard that getting it made in Hatton Garden would be cheaper than buying in a high street shop (also the style I want - three equal-sized stones in a row - doesn't seem that popular at the mo). We live in London anyway.

But what's the deal? I assume some places are literally just wholesale jewellers and you have to know your shiz re gems to go there, but some are more like independent jewellers for consumers.

I have googled, but they don't all seem to have websites and some of the websites that are up aren't that helpful.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I had my engagement ring made by a company called handleys of london. They were great from start to finish, I looked around a lot and there diamonds were the best priced and I had my ring hand made. They offer 30day guarantee and lifetime warranty with it as well which is a plus

I bought one very similar to style you mentioned 3 yrs ago; 3 stones to 1.5 carats, was 500£ as second hand. Would need to look up quality but probably vs1 and f or g colour - in Hatton gardens.

This is a very popular style so will be available second hand: go and look at least

Can't recommend anyone as I'm at the other end of the county

The sites mentioned before do give good deals but some of the stones are not so great, if you go through them the listings have a lot of IGI and EGL graded stones. Particularly in the case of EGL they're known to grade too leniently and IGI are known for being loose on clarity.

If you do decide to have a ring made
look for someone who uses GIA diamonds and can get the stones in for you to see and compare them together to ensure they're a good match before they're set.
Also as its 3 stones together check the fluorescence on the details, medium to strong blue fluorescence can be visible as a slight hint of blue in certain light and will be made more obvious if the stones have different characteristics.

My preference is for second hand jewellery
The lanes in Brighton is one of my first options
Hemswell cliff in Lincolnshire is somewhere I visit regularly to buy jewellery cheap - I've bought things there at a tenth of the price I would pay in Brighton!
York and Chester are also good for antique jewellery
If buying new Birmingham jewellery quarter would be my first choice

Anyone knows a good jeweller in Manchester/North Cheshire?

I want to have my wedding ring redesigned, for various reasons. I know one jeweller but would love more recommendations.

If you're open to antique there will be lots in that style. Try Berganza in Hatton Garden, they list most on website so you can get an idea.

We bought in Hatton Garden from someone without a shop front and got a diamond that is really beautiful. Thy also did my eternity ring. DH is getting good at picking out good diamonds now! The whole industry is pretty corrupt as far as I can tell, I've heard some awful stories of how De Beers keep prices up and squash their competition.

The Diamond Shop set the stones for my engagement ring and has made a couple of other rings for me over the years (since 1998).
Really delightful and talented chaps and so enthusiastic.
I also bought a ring from Eric Ross, had great service there, too.
