Hoc winters, help please

I had my colours done a few weeks ago and have been shopping since armed with my swatches. My problem is though, if I find something red, pink,,purple, green or blue that isn't the exact shade of my swatch, I find it hard to know if it's a cool or warm toned shade. Has Anyone else had this problem and if so, any advice please? Thanks

What I usually do is to check that it goes with the other colours in the swatch book.

Also bear in mind that the colour has to be clear, bold/intense and cool - NOT muted or warm/yellow based.

ah I see, so any colour that I think about, should tone with the rest in my swatch? That way I know it's right? Is that how it works? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick!

Yep, that makes sense. If you compare teal (for instance) to a pine green or an apple green to an emerald green, you can clearly see that they are too yellow.

Ok thanks, I'll try! I think getting my head around the fact that blue and green could be warm and pink and purple could be cool, is taking me some time!

Yes all the colours in your palette should go with each other - you should be able to put together an outfit more easily now.

I would go back to your consultant and ask her to show you how a cool clear pink/purple/blue/green would look compared with their warm or soft versions.

Great, thank you

I heard a tip somewhere to hold colour against
Opposite side of your swatch to see if it 'goes' or not (assuming you mean HOC). Worth a try anyway :).

Thanks hebbern, I'll try that

You get better at it over time.

As others said, try comparing it to the rest of your swatch book, on both sides, to see if it fits in well with all the colours, not just the one it's closest too. Also, having a look at the season summery and the descriptive paragraphs on the first couple of pages of the colour ratings book can be helpful as well. I found applying the colour descriptions easier than matching the wallet when I first had my colours analysed.

Oh, and if you've divided up your wardrobe into a right side and a wrong side, you should be able to mentally hang the new garment in the right side without it looking out of place.

And also, hold it up against your face and see if it makes you, as a Winter, look clear skinned, fresh faced, like there's a light under your skin etc etc etc.
