Hardcore handcream

Any recommendations? My skin isn't particularly sensitive but my hands are scaly, parched, ancient claws... Too much washing up and cold weather! Would prefer something paraben-free if possible...

Try olive oil then putting rubber gloves on and doing washing up in hot water. It's my emergency rescue solution. After one or two goes, I just apply hand cream after every hand wash.

coffeeinbed · 02/02/2014 14:12

Tisserand is lovely. Smells great, not too expensive, feels nice on the hands.

MooMinCow · 02/02/2014 14:39

Body Shop Hemp range. I actually prefer the one in the tub (hand butter) to the one in the metal tube (can never screw the tiny lid on when I've just applied cream over my hands!)

PoshPenny · 02/02/2014 14:40

I have had really brilliant results with tisserand lavender hand cream on my rough and cracked old stable hands this winter, so happy to suggest it.

LittleBabyPigsus · 02/02/2014 15:23

Body Shop Hemp. I am not mad on the smell but it's just amazing stuff.

Aquelven · 02/02/2014 19:37

L'Occitane Shea 20% handcream. Put a thickish layer on overnight

tshirtsuntan · 02/02/2014 19:42

Try diprobase ointment, cheap, no nice smell and medical looking but saved my poor hands, they were cracked and bleeding and are now functional and able to get wet without me crying! Grin

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 03/02/2014 15:36

another vote for Body Shop Hemp range. there is an offer on and hand stuff is %50 off so £2.50 a tube.

GarlicReverses · 03/02/2014 15:43

Body Shop Hemp here, too, although I don't like the smell or the slimy texture.

My first vote is for Neutrogena Norwegian Formula (Concentrated.)

handcream · 03/02/2014 15:43

Neotrogena - very thick and only use a little. Always use this, avoid the Anti Ageing one though as its more runny.

Come in perfumed and non-perfumed

chimchar · 03/02/2014 15:48

L'occitane lavender is my fave. It's very light and non greasy and smells AMAZING! It's great for popping on throughout the day when you're doing stuff.

Their Shea butter hand cream is a much thicker cream which I find better for night time.

They do lovely free samples if you can get to a shop...

Norfolknway · 03/02/2014 15:49

L'occtaine Shea butter is the best.

The body shop hemp one stung my hands.

Snowdown · 03/02/2014 15:51

Aveeno, non-greasy and very neutral smell.

MellowYellowWag · 03/02/2014 15:54

As Garlic said Nutrogena Norwegian concentrated formula. It's the only one that will sort my hands out & believe me I've tried loads of the more expensive brands.

Theas18 · 03/02/2014 16:09

for me Boots no7 P+P intense is the best.

I find the body shop hemp even isn't very long lasting. Neurogena is pretty good. L'occitaine - nice but really ( even the Shea butter) not that greasy/moisturising)

Apatite1 · 03/02/2014 16:45

Norwegian formula concentrated, unscented is far better than a lot of much more expensive stuff. If you don't like the thick texture, try Aveeno instead.

Flowerface · 03/02/2014 17:16

Thanks, great suggestions. I have just done the oil on hands in gloves while washing up, and though I stink, my hands do feel softer....

Another vote for Body Shop Hemp, it's amazing stuff.

ShatnersBassoon · 03/02/2014 17:31

Lotil is brilliant, and very cheap.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 03/02/2014 17:39

If you go to the money saving expert you can print off a voucher for free l'occitane hand cream at the moment. Three sample sized ones plus 15% off when you spend £35 online Smile I got some on friday and they're lovely.

JollyMarie79 · 03/02/2014 17:40

Coconut oil is amazing

PlasmaBall · 03/02/2014 17:49

My "housewife hands" improved massively when ds had a condition that meant i had to apply cheap id aqueous cream to his whole body 5 times daily.

TheJumped · 03/02/2014 19:05

You shouldn't use aqueous cream as a moisturiser, it's used as a cleanser for sensitised skin.

And yes to Nutrogena concentrated cream - I also have one of the squeezy top Nutrogena ones which is a more creamy consistency but still fab and use it frequently at home. The concentrated one is amazing but leaves my hands a bit claggy.
