<wail> My Pure Cashmere jumper has shrunk

Grrrrrrr. So sad and mad. Probably my fault as I machine washed it - but I had read so many threads where people had put them in a delicates or wool wash with no problems. And I washed my DM's cashmere sweaters for her a while back and they were fine. It was its first wash too.

Anyway, it's not a boyfriend jumper any longer. The sleeves are tight, it's narrower on the body and shorter in length. It's just not the same and I was so in love with it.

I don't think I have any comeback do I?

Sad

Google as apparently it's possible to stretch it back again after a cold wash, but do google. Sorry it happened - mine have all been fine after machine washing.

scarlettsmummy2 · 02/02/2014 10:19

This happened to me too! Just wash it again on a cool, delicate wash, in a pillow case, low spin- maybe 400, then give it a really good stretch when it comes out, then iron when damp.

MrsMcGregor · 02/02/2014 10:49

Okay, thanks. Will try that this week. Am so disappointed!

Soak it in a tepid solution of borax, gently hand wring most of the water out then stretch it to the shape you want. You can be pretty rough at this stage and the best result is if you get someone to hold the other end firmly while you stretch and pull.

coffeeinbed · 02/02/2014 13:40

Did you use the spin cycle?
I turn it of and squeeze out the water by hand.

Hopasholic · 02/02/2014 13:46

I did this with a uniqlo merino jumper. I put it in the wash accidentally, didn't even see it, when it came out, it would have fitted a four year old Grin
There was no going back from that. Fortunately it was only about £20

whatiswrongwithyou · 02/02/2014 13:55

Feel for you op, I've literally just ripped a hole under the arm of my cashmere jumper trying to stretch it out after shrinking it in the wash!

It's always been fine before when I've machine washed it. This time not only did it shrink but the cashmere's gone curly too!

pixelchick10 · 02/02/2014 16:26

So are we saying we should only handwash/dry clean cashmere???

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/02/2014 18:20

Where did you buy it from? Take it back and complain. The hand wash cycle in a machine is gentler than hand washing.

MrsMcGregor · 02/02/2014 21:25

Oh so glad it's not just me! Will definitely try another wash and re-shaping it but honestly don't hold much hope as I've read mixed results on Google. Worth a shot though.

Dame - it's from Pure Collection. An expensive purchase for me and it just doesn't look right now. Even DH noticed without prompting which is saying something Grin. I'm not sure that I would have a leg to stand on as the label clearly shows the hand wash symbol. I even put it on a delicates cycle as it was a shorter wash and gentler spin than wool. Grrrr.

If anyone really thinks it's worth me emailing Pure, please tell me so! Assertiveness is not a strong point!

I'd be tempted to complain anyway and say I'd hand washed itWink a jumper shouldn't shrink on a hand wash cycle in a machine as hand washing actually stresses the jumper more than the machine would.
