Shiseido - Best serum ever sampled! BUT £270 for 30ml!!!

I test a lot of things just when I happen to be in Boots or department stores, but this

www.boots.com/en/Shiseido-Future-Solution-LX-Ultimate-Regenerating-Serum-30ml_1320787/

is the first thing I have tested that I really really, really want to say how good it is. My skin looked plump, fresh, hydrated, like I'd just gone for a run, then sauna all glowy and dewy (normally fine lined, dry patches and spots!)

BUT it is £270!!!!!. I first tested it last year (in Boots Glasgow Fort) without realising how expensive it was till I googled it when I still looked fab hours later. I still thought that can't be right as it was just on a shelf, no assistants, no security tags or anything but I was there again today, tested it, same results and yes the price list confirmed it was indeed £270.

Does anyone else have it? Is it really worth buying (one for sale for £120 on ebay) Or should I just drive out to the store every week for a weekly fix of the sample!!?? I am currently using crème de la mer as I got so fed up with trying to get rid of dry patches in winter and this works but doesn't give results like the Shiseido one.

Yikes! I wouldn't get the Ebay one, it could be a fake.

Ilovexmastime · 01/02/2014 07:58

I would stick to the sample!

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/02/2014 08:35

Can you pop into Boots every morning and "sample" it? Grin

Apatite1 · 01/02/2014 11:08

Which serum is it?

The only one close to £270 online is the bio-corrective serum, but with the balm, on its own it's about £70.

nikkihollis · 01/02/2014 17:50

I feel your pain. I got a free sample of some skin restorer by Erno Laszlo (sp?) when I ordered some eyeliner online, and I've never seen/felt my skin look so fantastic. It was miraculous. I decided to get a full size one. When I went back on the website it was £270 ish (can't remember exactly but def over £250). Gutted!

Deathwatchbeetle · 01/02/2014 22:08

Well, it is up to you. Shiseido have a very good name in skincare.

As you have used the appalling overpriced and overhyped Creme de Mar which is nothing but very basic ingredients with a tiny amount of 'marine' stuff in it (not enough to make any difference) then I am surprised you are quibbling at the Shiseido serum.

The only problem will be -can you afford to keep replacing it? It used to amuse me when people gushed about a certain expensive item but that most of the time they used a very cheap dupe which did the same thing!

Not saying there is a cheap dupe out there for the Shiseido - there probably isn't, but unless you can afford to replace it when it runs out -better to look at a cheaper option.

lurkingaround · 01/02/2014 22:45

Is it not just a urea based serum?

lovingmatleave · 01/02/2014 23:36

It the Shiseido Future Solution LX Ultimate Regenerating Serum. After bit more research, it seems to get good reviews elsewhere. Apparently the special ingrediant is "amino acid derivative 1-piperidine propionic acid" Whatever the hell that is.

Deathwatchbeetle - yes I succumbed to hype of Crème de la Mar. The only thing I can say in its defence is I haven't needed to apply anything else to moisturise my skin all winter. Normally would spend quite a bit on various moistures and serums/oils combinations and still wouldn't feel fully moisturised.

I could afford now to buy it, but I don't want to get hooked as I wouldn't want to spend that regularly. The search for something that does the same but much cheaper continues then!

Much cheaper here. Still ludicrously expensive however.

hippity · 02/02/2014 09:38

I think there might be doubt about the authenticity of products on that site Primal.

PrimalLass · 02/02/2014 12:36

Ooops, I thought strawberrynet was a reasonably bis site for that sort of thing.

BuzzardBird · 02/02/2014 12:44

Makes my £6.50 Lanacane anti-chaffing gel recommendation from Dame look cheap doesn't it? Grin

SavoyCabbage · 02/02/2014 22:03

30mls! How many mls would you be using a day?

RonaldMcDonald · 03/02/2014 00:42

For god's sake, use Olay fragrance free
I doubt that there is a perceivable difference except to your bank balance
Problem solved

mcgilly · 03/02/2014 06:58

Aldi serum is brilliant. All of them.

BuzzardBird · 03/02/2014 07:29

Are Aldi still doing them? Thought they had discontinued?

Deathwatchbeetle · 03/02/2014 08:37

Lovingmatleave - sorry did not mean to sound rude. It just amazes me the number of people I know who go "Oh I use x cream -I know it is good at £400 a pop, but when I cannot afford it I use Y cream for £5.99" Well if the £5.99 is a good substitute and you cannot always afford the £400 one - it is a no-brainer £5.99 it is then!!!!!

Why not give the Lanacane anti chuffing stuff a try? At least it will be a useful addition to the bathroom cabinet if you don't end up using it on your face!!!. If you don't fancy that try one of the other cheap recommendations here.

isitme1 · 03/02/2014 08:41

My aveeno cream does the same thing Grin

mcgilly · 03/02/2014 09:21

Aldi discontinuing? That would be terrible. I'm in Oz and its easy to get here ... Maybe they are doing new formula or packaging? It really is great and if you don't like it on your face, it does wonders for the rest of your dry bits. The Ou drawback is the scent can be very strong. I am using a Lacura "naturals with silk proteins" serum ... One if my best ever for the equivalent of £6.

mcgilly · 03/02/2014 09:24

I am a Caroline Hirons fan and would never pay for Creme de la Mer now ... It's based on cheap mineral oil, with some seaweed thrown in. There are a few consumer comparisons with the original thick Nivea on the net ... The Nivea performed very well. Google Nivea La Mer.

BuzzardBird · 03/02/2014 10:03

Yes mcgilly the cosmetics lacura range has started to disappear off the shelves :(

The Lanacane works weirdly well though, which shocked me tbh.
