Insane urge to buy whole Boden catalogue

Ocado have just been and included Spring/summer Boden catalogue as usual. I flicked through, as usual, but instead of then dumping it in the recycling, I am seriously considering the Ravello top, the Grace dress, the Chic wool suit, the flower show dress, the casual jersey dress, the t-shirt dress, the floral skirt, the turnup trousers, the full stripy skirt, the bowling bag, the cable knit jumper, and the loafers.

Please come and tell me that a) their prices are ridiculous, even with their transparently fake "15% off" - I could get the same much cheaper on the high street with some canny shopping b) I don't need any of it c) none of their models have any bottoms at all, so a pearshaped person like me would look dreadful d) they're all horrible garments and I only think they're nice because it's so sodding dark and grey outside and I like the sunny colourful pictures.

Wrong.

You're back in your comfort zone again now.

I just bought my first boden item: the little tan bag with flouro zip for 20.65. Hope its as nice in reality. What have I gotten myself into?!
SEriously, cheers for the tip Frankie.

Ladies: YOU MUST RESIST. Over the years I must have spent £1000s on Boden. None of those items do I remember with fondness or pleasure. A few were well made and useful for work, but not recently. The quality has markedly gone down and the styles are rarely flattering. It just became a habit and a way of coping with stress sometimes " now where s that catalogue, ooh I think I ll order that" . So over it now.

Gillybobs · 03/02/2014 21:03

I disagree, the Bistro crop trousers fit me like a glove and are amazing quality. I have four pairs, two for work and two coloured pairs for casual. I've no idea what I'd wear without them. Just tried the new Chelsea turn ups and they are also seriously good, really thick stretchy "hold you in" fabric. Ravello tops are excellent workwear and the similar top with sleeves (Hampton top maybe?) also washes and wears beautifully. I could go on....

frankietwospots · 03/02/2014 21:10

Agree with Gillybobs - I have the Bistro crops too and they fit beautifully. I have never thrown or charity shopped any of my Boden pieces. The Audrey dress is another fave and I have piles of the Breton tops. OK, occasionally you do get slightly odd pieces that are cut funny or are too short, and yes I only ever order with a discount code (sometimes two!) as their stuff is pretty expensive. But if you choose wisely and know what suits you, then they are as good as any.

MrsCocoa · 03/02/2014 21:53

Whatabout: where are you shopping now?

scarlet76 · 03/02/2014 22:53

Well the stripe ponte skirt I ordered arrived and confirmed what I already knew... Boden is just a bit meh at times.
The cut was slightly frumpy on me. The material not quite right for a skirt. And for the love of God Boden, I CAN'T STAND YOUR TWEE CONTRAST TRIMS

LaTrucha · 04/02/2014 07:37

I do look at the catalogue and can pick a dozen things that I would quite like, but I know the cut will often be poor, I often won't like the colours, and i find it very overpriced. I would, though, like a Boden that was like Boden but good!

Cocoa:I wait for the Agnes b sale and invest in a pair of trousers and a skirt. I go to France a couple of times a year and get long sleeved tees from Petit Bateau. Other than that I trawl charity shops in posh areas of London (but that is obvioulsy very hit and miss). Just got a beautiful Aquacsutum coat on EBay for a great price. Occasionally if it's for a special occasion I go to Whistles, got a nice dress for a christening there.
