help with dark circles

Ok so please don't be scared by the photo! I wanted to show the horror that is my under eye area without showing my eyes! They are actually darker in real life Sad

Anyway, I've had dark circles my entire life and have worried about them and tried to get rid of them my entire life Sad

I know this is not a massive problem in the grand scheme of things but they really get me down. I conceal them best I can and wear glasses even though I don't need them in order to hide my eyes. It doesn't help that I'm so pale either.

I'm just so sick if being asked if I'm ill when I'm not. Someone ince asked me if I was a drug addict!

Anyway, I know how to use makeup to hide them (akthiugh it never completely hides them) but does anyonw have any suggestions on how to get rid of them? I fear I am stuck with them because my sister and mum have them but have darker skin so they're not so noticeable on them.

How old are you? I'm afraid it's probably due to your pale skin and the blood vessels showing through. I'm the same.

If it's an actual hollow (comes with age) then you could look into getting tear trough fillers.

Potus · 30/01/2014 12:20

i'm 35. i thought something like the fillers might be the only answer. unfortunately i can't afford them although even if i could i think i might be to scared something would go wrong and i would end up looking worse then i already do!

I'm going to try drinking more water each day to see if that helps at all. I would love more sleep more thats not going to happen! anyway, i've had them since i was about 2 so more sleep isn't the answer!

Does anyone know of any foods or vitamins that would help?

Water, no alcohol, eat well and exercise won't do any harm and may improve them. There was a thread yesterday about some amazing makeup cream that disguises them really well.

Yes the fillers are pricey and it is a risky area so I don't blame you!

Thanks Smile

Mine look much darker and bluer than yours when I don't cover them. Sad
I'm very pale and you can see through my skin in places so I think it's just that. I drink tons of water, take iron, get enough sleep, don't drink or smoke. Nothing has improved them.

Never been asked if I was a drug addict though! Shock

I've thought of cutting out sugar to see if that does anything.

Just seen that you wear glasses just to cover your eyes. That seems a bit extreme, I don't think they're as bad as all that. Could you be over focusing on them so they seem worse to you than anyone else?

EasterHoliday · 30/01/2014 15:02

It's genetic. I have the same.. Sleep and a glass of water sadly won't help.
You probably have very thin skin there, so make sure you're always using a good eye cream. Not sure how fillers could help - they're not goign to change the texture of your skin or the colour of it. Tear trough fillers are only good if you have an actual tear trough - you don't, it's purely shadow.
your Bobbi Brown counter will give you the best help you've had - there's a whole laborious system of one corrector followed by a concealer then powder. It is the best thing I've used.

Potus · 30/01/2014 16:16

Thanks for the replies. i know i do focus on them but i've had so many rude comments about them over the years it hard not too! i'd love to get my makeup done at a makeup counter but i'd be too embarrassed!

will definitely look up the bobbi brown concealer though, thanks. I do use eye cream so will carry on with that. might get some facial tanner to brighten my face up a bit. hopefully won't look too orange!

Back away from the tanner! Wink

Those people are just rude. If you cover them being that noticeable. Unless everyone's been staring at me dying to say something and I just didn't know it. Shock

Putting a pink blusher high up on your cheeks/cheekbones can help. It's not so much the dark circles as the pale skin next to them that makes them look darker (not on your pic just generally speaking) There's a Lisa Eldridge video where she does a tutorial for dark circles. You should look it up.

Coumarin · 30/01/2014 20:58

"If you cover them I can't see them being that noticeable."

Missed a bit sorry.

Hello Potus. I feel your pain. I've always had unkind comments about how dark they are when I was a teenager although not so much now. Back in January 2007, I went to the MAC counter in Browns in Chester to enquire about eye concealer and was recommended this product which was tested on me at the time.

It's brilliant, not cheap but you only need a little bit and it lasts ages so cost per wear is very little.
