any style gurus out there that can give me advice?

I live in 3/4 length tops over leggings or skinny jeans with a jumper. although I feel it suits my lifestyle of stay at home mum. I just waned to experiment with style.

ive been looking at the body shape guidelines but I always think im big and wider so I don't think im pear shape or skittle if that's the term?
i dont know what areas to meassure - but my attempted measurements are

shoulders - 38inch
under boobs - 30inch
chest standing - 30
chest bending 34inch
this is where I gets confused measuring?
waist at smallest part - 26inch
hips (in line with belly button) -33inch
hips (over widest part of bottom?) 38.5inch yes my bum is huge!

I wear a 32dd bra (should be 30E according to bra lady :-) ) but most shops don't stock 30's and would rather try on than order on line...

I don't have lady legs at all! they are quite chunky calfs that don't narrow to the ankle. more like thankless ;-)

hopefully I have given a good description. so what style of clothes would you put me in?

thanks in advance

Scarves are a good idea blues they would bulk up the top half nicely.

mouses · 30/01/2014 15:14

haha, no worries bishbosch i copied and pasted the links into search bar, loved the 'my mum is the last thing to lose' Wink

im the same, go gym and i get thunder thighs - do pilates and my upper bones stick out, boobs shrink.. Confused

i liked the boot jeans, id get them in a darker shade. tho id normally wear shraight/skinny. ive never been lured to cowboy boots, maybe they might look good on?? worth a try.

blues- im really useless at layering, do you have any images of what you mean by tank top and jersey? just for ideas?

yea, bishbosch mentioned tea dress... i googled and i love it! some look like vintagey (not a word) i LOVE vintage. what would i layer on top tho? clueless.

right, so when i hit the shops i must avoid the long jumper section.

then next, hair and make up overhaul! then try and cope with the changes haha. not an easy thing with me.

thankyou for your time. its so appreciated. x x

I'm an hourglass shape, Mouses and I struggle esp in the winter. I do wear vests (I have a lovely merino one that I'm wearing today) which saves me having to 'layer up' too much, but it keeps me warm.

I only wear them under my frumpy jumpers,

I have to learn the art of layering... Grin sounds like the direction I need

Tea dresses and skater dresses with thick tights and boots. A blazer or structured coat over the top will widen the too half slightly to balance out the bottom.

That said you're shape sounds gorgeous. The difference between your waist and bum size sounds bloomin great! Get wiggling!

Coumarin · 30/01/2014 16:09

top and your

mouses · 30/01/2014 16:22

lol thanks Blush cant see it myself...

but yea with right styling I might learn to love my shape?

what sort of boots and length would you suggest coumarin? ankle or knee high? heel or flat? Grin

although couldn't wear heels that high now days, would have tobe blue or black pumps maybe?

also when ive tried a coat of that length it looks edgy over my hips not flowy like the pic. I wear hip length coat.

I wear black opaques with biker boots with my dresses. Honestly you should love your shape . If rather be curvy of bum than fat of tum :-)

mouses · 30/01/2014 20:18

yea I couldn't / wouldn't go bare legs, stretch marks, skin whiter than milk, blotchy legs! :-( so yep would need opaques.

im on the quest to be more positive, (drs orders Wink ) maybe one day I will x

I love black opaques. I'm also blessed Hmm with whiter than white skin. Plus they make legs look ace.

I like the outfit you put together. Good shapes and the blue would suit you I think.

I know what you mean about the coat sticking out, but I think hip,(assuming you mean the hip bone bit), length would draw the eye to that area and cut you off, so would highlight the bit you're self concious about. The nipped in waist on that coat ^ would really look good.

Boots- any really, depends on the dress and if it's dressy or a day one. Chunkier boots and flat would be my preference for day, especially if it's a very feminine material. The two contrasts sort of balance each other out, iykwim.

I'm confusing myself now and I'm no expert. Just have experience of trying to get things to flatter a small, pinched in waist. I'm sure designers think we're all straight up and down.

Coumarin · 31/01/2014 00:15

And honestly there are tons if women who'd love to have your shape. Be proud of it.

Coumarin · 31/01/2014 00:17

Flat ankle boots with a buckle (Steve Madden and dune had some nice ones a month or so ago) look good with a tea dress.

I'll shut up now. Grin

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 31/01/2014 00:22

How about looking at pics of Nigella Lawson and Kelly Brook? They dress well and have hourglass figures

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 31/01/2014 00:23

Or Pinterest might have some if you search 'hourglass'

mouses · 31/01/2014 09:46

you've all been so helpful,

i love pinterest, the outfit pic was copied and pasted from there Wink
