clothes for chubby toddler?

DS1 is long and skinny... i got good at finding stores that stocked trousers that would stay up (and that's what our cupboard is full of).

DS2 is almost 2 and is not skinny. and not long. he's got GI issues so he's definitely on the short side, and he gets really bloated so his tummy gets really big (plus he's pretty solid to start with).

I need some clothes for DS2, but not sure where the best place to look is.... any suggestions for fat toddlers? Trousers in particular, please.

I think the clothes from Next are quite roomy. Would you mind sharing where you got clothes for DS1 please? :-)

Frugi are good for chunky toddlers, my friend buys loads from them but it doesn't fit my slender DC. Much to my dispointment, as they are lovely clothes, if pricey (my friend only buys in the sale).

I found sainsburys TU clothes more wider (roomy) And next once you get to age 3-4yrs. I got the complete opposite with my DS this time around - short and skinny.

M & S used to do some bigger children stuff.

Is it a style thing as much as size that might make a difference. Things like tracksuit bottoms with elasticated cuffs are fine if a bit long because the cuffs hold them up.

As we get towards summer another option is next size up in 3/4 length. DD is a very different build to her big brothers. They're both supper tall and very skinny - i have to take most things in. She's very short. I realised that I was selecting the easier fit clothes from her drawer that are actually ment to be 3/4 length.

For tops what about layering t shirts/ vests with open shirts/ tracksuit jackets. You could increase the slit size at the side to give a little more space.

thanks all ... I'll check out M&S, though i'm not sure i've seen their wider sizes in the young age; perhaps i haven't looked hard enough! Off to google Frugi; there's no TU near us, so i guess i'll check that out online, but hard to tell fittings without buying.

Elasticated cuff type things aren't great as they're still too long; it's better to roll trousers up (a lot) and get them out of the way.

I've got a couple of Next clothes that work in the bigger sizes, that we roll up; i'll have another look there, they're definitely the biggest of the things we have so far. We already do the 3/4 length thing; I just don't have enough stuff :-/

ValeriaS, i found that gap did skinny jeans that were good, plus some of their shirts were good. Whenever the sales were on, i'd buy things from the "designers" at Debenhams; several of them did things in a really skinny fittings. Now he's 5, i get a lot of stuff from H&M; they may do skinny baby stuff too; i didn't really see their stuff when DS1 was little. We had a reasonable amount of 2nd hand baby stuff - up to 18 months, and we managed to miss a couple of winters, so DS1 was in 9m.o. shorts when he was turning 3 as the length didn't matter! For the remainder, we just had a couple of belts to keep things up, and shirts just look baggy.

H&m have boys jeans with elasticated waists (like maternity jeans for toddlers Grin ) they were good for the chubby phase, they usually have elasticated leg cuffs too so you can sort of hook them over if you have to get them too long to fit in the waist.
