So I am about to turn 40 this year and all of a sudden its grey hairs, dark suitcases under my eyes and dull horrible skin Shock. Any tips on how to look less haggard. Is is best to start from within i.e cut out caffeine, eat healthy etc. what skincare regime do you use? Are there any miracles out there? Help

Regular exercise is good ... and touche eclat under the eyes ;)

Watching with interest - weird how we suddenly notice how we look - we look at our faces at least a couple of times a day?? Sure it doesn't happen one night when we are asleep?!!

By the way, I look at least 10 years older than I thought I looked yesterday!

I walk a lot so I get lots of fresh air and I am reasonably fit so weight is not an issue (for now) but right now that's the only positive. Just exactly when did I turn into this tired middle aged person. I'm sure I was 27 the last time I lookedSad

One problem with the '40 is the new 30' mantra is that you can take it literally and then get a shock when you start to look... older! There's no reason why you can't look good for years to come (I certainly hope so as I'm in my fifties!) but you do have to work at it. So whatever your bad habits are: booze, cigs, sunbathing, late nights, unhealthy food - I'm afraid it's time to reign them in if you don't want them to show in your face.

I don't believe in expensive creams and treatments but I've used bog standard moisturiser, sunscreen, eye cream and night cream since my thirties and my skin isn't bad at all. So I've no magic treatments, I'm afraid, just a sensible regime.

PS I hope that didn't sound patronising or presumptious as you say you already exercise regularly. But we all have some bad habits that we get away with in our twenties and thirties but that then catch up with us. For me, it's lack of sleep, alcohol and too many take-aways - they show in my skin really quickly.

When I turned 50 I decided to treat myself to a make up lesson with a really good ex make up artist beautician. The breakthrough discovery I made was that eyebrow maintenance is the key to having a youthful looking face.

I now have my brows and eyelashes regularly dyed and it never fails to astonish me the difference it makes to my appearance every single time I have it done. The makeup artist "drew" them in which is obviously an option but I prefer the dying route especially as it comes with a brow wax.

Go for it. You will be amazed!
