Anyone tried any new Primers? Not too matte, not too shiny..

I'm in my late thirties, have normal/combination skin... Would like a primer that isn't too matte but still has silicones in to smooth the skin, anyone tried a new one recently?
Thanks.

I've used Lanacane for around 6 months after reading about it on various beauty blogs and it's brilliant. I've spent so much money on expensive rubbish primers and for £6/7 it's incredible. Also I have very sensitive skin and I'm allergic to a hell of a lot of face products bad it's very gentle on my skin. I'd recommend it to anyone!

SicknSpan · 05/02/2014 17:56

Will be trying the Lanacane one now after all these recommendations and the Mumsnet best buy email. Have used Avon Magix Face perfector for a while and found that fab and budget friendly (about £8 I think) but have run out so will give that one a go just to make sure.

ummingandahhing · 05/02/2014 17:59

I used to use Smashbox for ages and then swapped to Lanacane too! Grin

NoodleBrain · 05/02/2014 18:08

I am going to be very odd and dense...but where do you put it? I thought I'd worked out it was a face ting but then someone said something about bottoms - it may surprise you to hear that I'm not very good with "products"Confused

BuzzardBird · 05/02/2014 18:58

Sorry Noodle I was just kidding. I meant that my face was as smooth as a baby's bottom. :) It goes on your face, especially the areas where pores tend to be large like around the nose, cheeks and forehead. Sorry for the confusion, it's my sense of humour. Blush

BumpNGrind · 05/02/2014 21:59

Shu uemura under base mousse makes my skin feel like glass, it makes me feel flawless which isn't something I feel everyday! it's expensive so I only use it for occasions but it's amazing!

So trying the lanacane now!

minibmw2010 · 05/02/2014 22:56

Can Lanacane be bought in Boots/Superdrug? Where on the shelves would it be ???

Kewcumber · 05/02/2014 22:58

Lanacane going to sell out now isn't it...

BuzzardBird · 05/02/2014 23:42

I ordered mine from Tesco on a grocery delivery. Think it is pretty much available in all pharmacies.

DavenotChas · 05/02/2014 23:57

Thank you, thank you to the lanacane lovers out there. Been using it since Saturday and have tried bb cream, cc cream and that loreal nude magique stuff over it and it is the mutts nuts! Everything has stayed put I'm well happy Grin

Pimpf · 06/02/2014 07:30

Dumb question. What's a primer? What's anti chaffing gel?!

BuzzardBird · 06/02/2014 09:03

A primer goes on top of your moisturiser either bare or underneath your foundation or tinted moisturiser. It is a base. It smoothes out the skin and fills in open pores giving you a more youthful appearance which stays put until you wash it off. It was discovered that lanocane anti-chaffing gel which is a barrier cream for areas of the body that get irritated by rubbing together (such as inner thighs) has the same ingredients than the expensive primers and is a fraction of the cost. I hope I have explained that correctly?

Kewcumber · 06/02/2014 12:29

bought some from sainsburys. Thats me set for a year - have teh price of my usual primer and 2.5 times the size. Seems OK but I'll see how the day/week goes!

Kewcumber · 06/02/2014 12:30

I wonder who first thought - "thighs are chafing a bit where's the Lanacane... ooh I've got a great idea, lets slap it on my nose too"

BuzzardBird · 06/02/2014 12:51

I know Kew, I did wonder the same Grin. Maybe they thought "gosh, my inner thighs look youthful!" Grin

Kewcumber · 06/02/2014 12:56

Polyfilla might make my inner thighs look youthful. Primer not so much.

It does feel like primer so I guess someone just put two and two together...

minibmw2010 · 06/02/2014 13:09

Is this it?

mimiasovitch · 06/02/2014 16:27

I had a sample size of the smash box one for Christmas, and love it. I'm do glad I resisted spending on more of it today, and will instead try the lanacane. In fact, I'm sure I have some in the bathroom already.

TenCupsOfTea · 06/02/2014 16:36

Marking place as need to start using primer Hmm

TOADfan · 06/02/2014 17:07

Just dont buy out all the Lanacane. I actually use it for tights Grin

Kewcumber · 06/02/2014 17:20

don't actual tights work better as... well... tights?

Pimpf · 06/02/2014 19:19
