Dark brown hair dye

I currently have my hair dyed dark brown, but it looks very different in different light conditions - and in particular, very red under indoor lights.

My friend tells me that it's really difficult to get dyed dark brown hair without the redness too - is this true?

I could ask my hairdresser. He loves this dye though (Loreal inoa).

Inoa brown does have loads of red in it. Mine went that lovely Hmm brassy orange colour in the ends when it faded.
Everyone is going to come on and tell you to ask for ashy toned brown and cool brown but I did that and it was very dark and then did the orange thing again.
I think it's the Inoa formula.

Coumarin, mind is simultaneously very dark (to me anyway!) and red (in certain lights).

Okay, I Googled ash brown hair, but the results showed all hair colours.

Then I Googled cool brown hair - that looks more like it. I wonder if my hairdresser can get it like that. I don't want it too dark, I think I'm already at my limit.

Let us know what he says. I haven't had mine coloured since last summer as I wanted it to fade as much as possible before I went again to avoid the too dark look.

Mine was both slightly too dark and red at the same time. I'm sure they've changed all the professional hair dye formulas recently.

Oh no, I usually go and say that I've loved the cut and colour - this time I have to say that the cut was too long and that the colour was too red Grin.

I think it comes with the territory of permanent hair dyes. They strip colour out of your hair before depositing new colour. When you strip colour out of naturally dark hair, it goes redder. So the dye looks good at first but as it fades it turns a reddy or brassy colour.
Definitely ask for a cooler or ashier brown colour next time and try using something like the Aveda Clove Conditioner once a week in between colours to keep the colour cool looking. Or the black madder one if you've got darker brown hair.

Hmm, I actually have light / mid-brown hair. Is it my red that I'm seeing or the dye's red Confused?

I'll definitely ask for a cooler brown this time.

I don't see a difference over time, it just always looks very red in certain lights.

I don't know if this hair dying thing is for me. But my natural colour is very dull.

I do use special shampoo and conditioner that the hairdresser sold to me somewhat exorbitantly.

I use inoa (at home and at the hairdressers) and j don't get much orange coming through when it starts to fade. My hair is brown, but not to dark and i use the 6.0 shade. The .0 ones are the cool / ashy ones so make sure you always use one if these.

Okay, I got a cooler brown, but it's too dark Confused. Sod the red, it looks black. And now I think about it, it's got darker each time I've had it coloured. Is there any way back to lighter hair?

I don't like my haircut as much as usual either. Sad
