anyone suggest ways to make me more fragrant? I wash hair daily in a mild shampoo and rinse, rinse, rinse but the next day i smell like an 'old dog or maybe sheep' according to dh It is a very strong pungunt smell at times; don't pong too much elsewhere

I am 50 and not having anything in the way of hot flushes yet but have noticed this for about six months. I drink lots of of water and eat plenty of veg etc Don't eat muh strong smelling foods and don't smoke. Scalp isn't itchy or flaky or particularly oily and I don't have scurf or anything nasty there

Help please

Would you try a medicated shampoo for a bit, say tgel then no conditioner but a spray on/leave in one like Aussie miracle?

PedlarsSpanner · 28/01/2014 16:56

Oh and pillows - do you wash them regularly/replace regularly? They can get a bit erm yeasty

It could be a mils fungal infection. I know it's expensive, but you could try Nizoral it kills the fungus. Also, I absolutely love the smell of the new head and shoulder apple shampoo.

pillow about eight months old and the pillow protector and pillow case changed weekly

hair is dried naturally but its not the hair that smells but my scalp

will have a look/sniff at nizoral etc.

thank you

Does your scalp tend to oiliness? I get this from time to time, and find a switch around of shampoos helps a bit. Nizoral helps as contains a mild anti-fungal agent. Head and shoulders and the blue bottle ? from loreal for dandruff does too. I've also tried using apple cider vinegar; in the shower, massage into the scalp, leave it for a few minutes then wash off as usual. Tea tree shampoo was good as well, like the others massage in and leave on scalp for a few minutes before rinsing off. Oh, and blow dry thoroughly as another poster suggested.
You're not alone with this, it's a problem for lots of people (ask a hairdresser!).

Maybe you should be using a stronger shampoo?

great thanks; I'm off to Boots tomorrow with me list. Hope I can crack it as I sometimes see dh's nose wrinkle up a bit when I'm near !

Maybe you're having night sweats without realising it.

SpringyReframed · 28/01/2014 19:55

I would try any shampoo with Tea Tree in it. The Philip Mitchell one is fantastic, if a bit pricey.

I bought some head and shoulders and washed hair straight away . It's now Friday and despite me not washing hair since Wednesday my scalp doesn't smell Grin. I can't believe I've been walking around like this for six months when all it needed was H&S !

thanks everyone

Stronger shampoo and few drops of tea tree oil and the scalp whilst hair is still wet.
