Foundation for teenage DD

I am looking for a foundation with a good coverage for my DD2. She has very pale skin and has inherited the family red nose, so while her skin is quite clear she wants something with a good coverage to hide her nose. She has tried loads of the cheaper ranges, but getting something pale enough is proving a problem - plus they have worn off by lunchtime.

She got a gift voucher for Debenhams for Christmas so I was going to take her to a makeup counter to get professionally matched, but which one would you recommend for a 15 year old? I use Estee Lauder Double Wear and she wants to try it as the coverage is so good, but I think it is too old for her!

She loves Benefit, but their foundation range isn't great. I was thinking about MAC? What would anyone advise?

Many thanks!

Estee lauder invisible fluid makeup-they are great for samples

^I like it because it ferls natual and is good coverage.wise. The double wear I tried was just too heavy and npt a good match

Bare minerals all the way. Natural product and blends and covers blemishes and acne. Wonderful product !

Countrywalks · 28/01/2014 17:23

It's a powder foundation applied with a large soft brush.

I'd almost be tempted to do Clinique.

But there are tons of ranges out there. MAC is fine but not sold in Debenhams.

NARS is quite cool but again not sold in Debenhams. how about the Dainty Doll range by Nicola out of Girls Aloud? I'm also thinking what about a BB cream? Laura Mercier do a nice TM.

HelloBoys · 28/01/2014 17:29

oh they do do MAC but maybe not all stores do it.

Bobbi Brown is great I have their foundation stick. but again you need to ensure it gives light enough coverage but the redness is covered too.

My dd is also 15 with very fair complexion, I was going to take her to Boots to get her complexion tested & get the best match .Has anyone else had this done & does it work ?

DD is 16 and uses MAC, but is finding it a bit too heavy and is going to go back to Benefit (I don't use their foundation so can't give first hand info, but I love their cream eyeshadow)

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 28/01/2014 17:35

On no she's 17 - she'd be highly insulted if she knew I'd got that wrong!

dexter73 · 28/01/2014 17:39

My dd use Mac and likes it. They have different types so they aren't all heavy.

I'd recommend Laura Geller's Balance n Brighten for a teenager. Very easy application and the coverage can be built up in specific areas. Only available in the UK from QVC though. As an alternative Bare Minerals but I find the application a lot more faff and its not as portable if she needs a touch up during the day.

EveryGoodBoyDeservesFun · 28/01/2014 19:15

Oh some brilliant suggestions here, thank you everyone!

Where does Bare Minerals? I've read about it, but not sure I've seen it in stores.

I love the range of colours that Estee Lauder do - I feel that she is bound to get the right shade amongst their selection, but agree with you allthingspretty that the Double Wear would be too heavy for her. I might see what other ranges they do though - the invisible fluid might be a good option.

Our Debenhams definitely does MAC, so its good to hear they have different ranges too. I think I'll take her to both those counters and see if they can match her colour and let her have some samples to try before she decides. I'd like her to get it right once and for all rather than waste any more bottles of foundation!

Thanks again folks, this has been a great help.

Bare minerals is sold in Debenhams. Both my teenage DD 'a use it and love it. It is so natural looking. I have also converted over from a lifetime of cream foundation and would not go back. I buy my top ups from Looking Fantastic. Starter set and all the brushes from £34.00.

FrugalFashionista · 30/01/2014 08:34

I have had pale skin with a red nose since I was 15 and have worn ELDW type Revlon Colorstay in Ivory since I was a teen. But mineral makeup is much better, gives a more natural look without compromising coverage. (If she has breakouts, the Lily Lolo concealer in the palest shade has been really fantastic for me.)

Boots soap and glory do a really nice tinted moisturiser thingy that has great coverage without feeling heavy, the shades are good, I'm very pale and the lightest one is too pale for me.
