HOC Style Day - ins and outs?

debbiedowner84 · 25/01/2014 22:21

Hi, have any of you done the HOC Style Day? I've already had my colours done and that has been life changing but not sure if I need the style day. I think I understand my body shape and proportions.

Can anybody tell me the layout of the day? What happens? What did you learn?

Iirc, halff of it was assessing your style personality -ie romantic, gamine, natural, classic, dramatic and one other and discussing clothing that would go with your personality,. The other half was measurements - very detailed and looking at shapes of specific parts of your body. Overall gave a really thorough indication of what clothes are best , through to which neck lines, jewelry, skirt lengths etc. I found it just as useful as the colour day personally.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 25/01/2014 23:44

It's really as the previous poster said. Very useful and every bit as helpful as the colour day.

Takes a while to sink in but teaches you great principles.

I had my colours done last September and have finally booked a style day for this coming Friday. I found that whilst I knew my colours I still went into shops and had that paralysis where I didn't know what to buy! I would buy something because it was in my colours but it still looked rubbish.

Pretty much what twooter said. We also cover things like putting together a capsule wardrobe/how you want to be seen, style-wise, how to shop most effectively etc etc.

The clothing personality is derived from both your body geometrics and your personality - one of the biggest flaws with many online tests and tv shows is that they deal with only body shape or personality, and we need to put clothes on both of those things. Also it can bust any preconceptions you have about your body - I thought I had short legs, a short neck and was an hourglass shape, but it turned out I have perfectly average legs, a long neck and although I go in at the middle, my body is all angles and triangles, not a traditional curvy hourglass - which is why I never felt as amazing as I thought I should in typical 50s/retro clothes designed for hourglasses. I'd never considered myself as someone who 'needed help' but it was a revelation for me!

Ps, am HoC consultant, so you may prefer to listen to others! Grin

That's really helpful thanks ladies. I've booked on and am sure I will get a lot out of it, just slightly hesitant.

I am still struggling to really do any thing with the information from the HOC style day. I am a natural classic, but am SAHM always running around with converse and jeans. I agree with the diagnosis, just don't know what to do next!

Thanks!

OP sorry to crash your thread! Kindly colour consultants please help! Celeb examples just don't look like me body wise- Kate middleton, cat deeley, tamzin outhwaite. I can't do skinny jeans or short skirts and struggling to see how I can emulate their kind of look with my body shape. I am tall rectangle with defined waist, but my thighs are not my strong point. I usually wear straight leg jeans but struggle with footwear to go with them. I haven't changed a single thing I wear since going to the style day :(

Hopefully · 31/01/2014 06:45

Hepburn What clothing personality were you given? I would strongly suggest you get back in touch with your consultant and say you're feeling lost and ask for some help. The fashion update that HoC releases twice a year can be great for inspiration as it contains line drawings etc from real shops.

ps K middy, Cat Deeley all tall rectangles, so it sounds like you're in the right ballpark, body shape-wise?

Hebburnisaplaceonearth · 31/01/2014 09:06

I'm just bigger than them, with my widest part being upper thigh, hence I really don't suit skinnies. Also k mid is very classic in style isn't she? I've been diagnosed "natural classic" and I need to see more casual looks, not nude tights and court shoes! I didn't find fashion update useful- too fashiony for my everyday life. What's the difference between natural and classic and just natural? Is it to do with needing more structure?

Hopefully · 31/01/2014 09:47

Full natural is a much more relaxed style, lots of texture, drapey cardigans etc. natural classics basically need a mix of natural and classic all the time, so some more relaxed texture, some more structured, within every outfit.

In terms of finding another jeans shape, have you tried straight or a slim boot cut?

K middy looks like a natural classic who 90% of the time dresses full classic, due to the nature of her role. Have you tried googling images of some of the celebs in casual clothes?

I really would contact your consultant - I'm sure she would want you to be happy with the analysis.

Aquelven · 31/01/2014 10:04

I found it immensely useful how your body shape is analysed & help with the shapes to buy to suit it. I knew I was an hourglass & had short legs but never realised I had particularly narrow shoulders & long body.
The personality style was spot on for me & showed why I'd always been drawn to pretty yet relaxed things. I'm a natural ingenue.

But my consultant never touched at all on Hopefullys "We also cover things like putting together a capsule wardrobe/how you want to be seen, style-wise, how to shop most effectively etc etc." even though I was there on my own do had plenty of time.

Aquelven · 31/01/2014 10:05

So, not do Blush

Hebburnisaplaceonearth · 31/01/2014 11:29

Thank you for your advice hopefully. I have contacted my consultant, she is lovely- spot on at analysing colour and style categories, but maybe not at shopping advice...

Hopefully · 31/01/2014 11:29

Aquelven did your consultant not work through the pages on things like how you want to be perceived (one of the first pages in the workbook), the capsule wardrobe/pie chart page/good and bad shopping experiences page?

Aquelven · 31/01/2014 14:11

No. She analysed the pictures of clothes shapes in the book & explained why some were good for me & others not. She never touched on a capsule wardrobe. The pie chart she just pointed out & told me to fill it in at home.
She spent a while showing me her suitcase she takes on holiday with her clothes permutation in it, which wasn't really relevant to me as she takes beach holidays in hot, exotic places whereas we tour Britain in our motorhome with the dogs, so I don't need a suitcase as I have a wardrobe onboard, which I had mentioned. Plus we are completely different seasons, shape & style type.
Sorry, I don't mean to sound critical. She's a nice lady, I liked her, just there seem to be areas that other people have got more guidance with.
