Long hair...When is too long?

My hair grows quickly and is currently down to the small of my back. I booked in for a cut next weekend but not sure whether to go for a trim or shorter (shoulder length ish)

I love the look of a bob just above the shoulders but my hair has a natural wave to it so would take quite a bit of styling each morning to look good. I have neither the time or enthusiasm for this!

Do you think very long hair on a 32 year old looks ok? I worry that it makes me look young. Should be a good thing but im quite young looking anyway! I want to look sophisticated!

Anyone suggest any styles?

Just looked at your photo (and agree w how sweet and cute your DDs are!) and I think some layers around the face and/or a sweeping fringe wills be a good idea. It would add volume around your face (all the volume is at the bottom of your hair, at the moment, so think it needs balancing out).

As you seem to have wavy hair, make sure your hairdresser cuts with your waves - I think cutting wavy hair is meant to be harder than straight hair. However, I think your hair looks to be in gorgeous condition, with lots of body so you can wear it long. I can't wear my hair that long as it starts to look v scrappy.

One last point - with your shaped face, I don't think I would do a straight, horizontal fringe, think sweeping and/or long layers around the face would be better. Do you know what I mean?

2 years ago my hair was down to the small of my back when I got it cut to bob length. I tried kidding myself on for a while that I liked it. What I didnt realise is how much longer I had to spend styling it to make it look good. I even had to use straighteners which I never use except for nights out.

Once I finally decided to grow it again I asked DH why didn't he say anything when i cut it short and he practically wailed at me how sad he was when I cut my hair because he loved it so much.its now halfway to my bra strap and looks much much better. Im aiming for an inch below my bra strap.

Im 33.

Gorgeous hair and I think you could look like Kate Middleton. I would keep it long but get a couple of inches (at the most) trimmed and ask the hairdresser to cut it in a way to preserve those lovely waves and add volume to the top (might need a few layers to get this).

I think it maybe sits a bit heavy but a trim would sort that out.

Pinterest has a hair and beauty section theres lots of ideas on there.

My hair is bra strap level and I like volume and waves/ curls or straight but if I just leave it natural it looks too bulky and heavy but thats just my personal preference!

I don't think your hair is too long, it looks like it's in good condition in the picture. I would advise a sweeping fringe or some layers though, I think wavy hair is lovely when it has a softness to it if that makes sense . I have wavy hair down to the back of my bra and find that channelling Jerry Hall helps!

Thanks everyone, and thanks for the comments on the girls. They are very cute but little madams that gang up together! I think they have inherited my fast hair growing gene as they both have hair down to their waists.

I think I will keep it long but get a few inches off the bottom to tidy up the ends and some layers to help soften it abit. Might get some moroccan oil or something to help stop the frizz too. Like the idea of a fringe but not sure im brave enough!

Your hair looks lovely.

LadyVetinari · 04/02/2014 10:48

I agree with the others - you already look nice and longish hair definitely won't age you or make you look scruffy. However, it would look a lot better with more style and less weight to it.

Graduated length at the front plus a sweeping fringe would look nice on you, I think;

or, if you're not keen on fringes, something like this...

I'd also add some Wella Shockwaves Xtreme Hold mousse while your hair is wet and brush it through thoroughly when dry, to make it nice and voluminous without being all crispy and hard. (Your hair looks a lot like mine - fine and soft, but lots of it - and I find that the above makes a big difference. On special occasions I also blow it 90% dry and then use a hot air brush for the remaining 10% to make it all flicky and bouncy.)

Also, please feel free to ignore the unsolicited advice if you prefer, but I just thought I'd mention: one of my friends looks a lot like you, and she recently got her eyebrows shaped and started using dark brown brow powder/subtly applied pencil on them, and for some reason it makes her hair sort of... snap into focus, IYSWIM. It was only a small change, but it means that her hairstyle seems to complement her face better. Might it be worth a try?

Ooops - wrote message, got distracted, came back to post it without refreshing the page, and then crossed posts with you! Your new 'do is lovely, but I'd still recommend the strong mousse when you style it yourself - it makes a huge difference to mine! Smile
