A Nice Watch

TheCountessOlenska · 25/01/2014 08:47

I have never had a fancy watch - the fanciest has been a £50 Swatch Blush - but I have recently gone back to work (where a watch is very useful to me) and my before-Mat-Leave £30 one is looking quite shabby (a link has dropped off it etc).
My birthday is coming up, I think i am ready for a Grown Up watch in my life Grin
I have no taste for things like watches/jewellry/ handbags - MN, tell me what to get, and how much will it cost me Shock

I have just got a Lorus two tone one (silver and gold) as my engagement and wedding rings are platinum but I also wear gold jewellry a lot. Looks v similar to more expensive ones and much more affordable.

fossil

also in steel

fossil

a nod to the swatch

christopher ward but may be too retro and not enough bling

I also like the rose gold/gunmetal combinations I need a new watch now

Couldn't agree more re Citizen Eco drive, always complimented on it and no batteries required. Fab.

Another vote for Skagen.

Really cool and classy, slim and minimalist.

Hard-wearing too.

cressetmama · 27/01/2014 09:05

Another vote for Christopher Ward. I've had mine for about six years (the original Matisse, which is no longer made) and it still looks great. The customer service is good too. Now coveting the Emily style which "acknowledges" the Hermes Cape Cod. Can't comment on Skagen, but like their wafer thin minimalist style.

rotary one we got dd for b'day is gorgeous in rl

I have just bought myself this watch as I needed a watch, but wanted something a bit more bracelet-like than with a strap.

It's very stylish and looks very elegant and goes with pretty much everything!

TheCountessOlenska · 27/01/2014 17:14

OP here, thanks for all your suggestions.

ManAlive I LOVE that Vivienne Westwood one but I don't think it would go with my other stuff. I bet it looks fab on you though!

I've seen a Skagen one that I like - rose gold and silver. Skagen fans - how do you find the mesh strap? I have read some reviews that it is hard to adjust, fiddly to do up, and one that said the mesh had unravelled and was catching in clothing etc??

I've never had a problem with the mesh strap (and mine is 11 years old!). The clasp is different from the usual clasps, but it's still easy to do and I find it more secure TBH. Easy to adjust as well.

Which one is it that you like?

Jackthebodiless · 27/01/2014 22:03

The Michael Kors rose gold ones are a bit of a craze at work at the mo. They're gorgeous. £250-ish I think.

TheCountessOlenska · 28/01/2014 08:19

Maybe this cardamom?

Some lovely watches on here. Rio I love the one you linked to. Tempted!!

Doearwigsmakechutney · 28/01/2014 19:29

I've got a skagen rose gold watch and it is beautiful, whilst also being quite low key. I love it. I found the clasp fiddly at first, but got used to it. The mesh strap is really easy to adjust.
