Hi
My hair is awful and I need some help!
I have just past shoulder length, fine blonde hair. It was ok until about two mnths ago and I started losing my gorgeous pregnancy hair :( ds2 is 6.5 months. Now it's quite lank really. It almost feels brittle but yet gets greasy very quickly. I have to wash it every day,, have tried stretching this out in the past to no effect. I've been alternating between different shampoo to avoid build up so I don't think thats the problem. I'm on a budget so can't afford mega expensive brands. Can anyone recommend what I can wash my hair with to sort out it's general condition?! And conditioner? Please?! And also if there are any treatments I can whack on to give it a boost. Thank you :)

I've found the Tresemme Keratin range to be really good. For deep conditioning, coconut oil is good- left in for at least half an hour on dry hair then shampooed. How about dry shampoo on alternate days? What shampoo are you using at the moment?

I have the same hair type made worse by my thyroid packing up after dd2. I looked for reviews and started using aphogee from amazon. It's protein based so makes my hair feel stronger and more swishy. I still have to wash it every day but always have and feel a bit ick if I don't but that's just me.

Thanks, what color bottle are they in? I'm currently switching between a timotei blonde shampoo/conditioner and herbal essences tousled shampoo/conditioner. For no other reason than they were in our cupboard, I don't know why as my hair is straight...

Thanks lady, does it not weigh your hair down then? Just wondering as some damaged hair shampoo has made my hair lanker as its quite fine. It's such a mess, stupid pregnancy!

Cutting your hair shorter probably, it always helps and try egg yolk mixed with olive oil as a hair mask for half an hour before washing.

More than shampoo, I would make certain to get lots of good healthy food, as much sleep as you can and find time to relax. Nourkrin is brilliant for lengthening the life/growing cycle of the hair, so you lose less and it makes your nails grow too.

I don't have similar hair, so can't recommend shampoo, but I as babySophieRose suggests, cutting your hair shorter creates less stress on the hair and you are likely to find it grows thicker. Good luck.

Neiffer · 24/01/2014 12:23

Haha mini, I'd love more sleep and rest but have 2 under 2! I do need a bit chopping off, but it's been this length before and not been as bad. Just strange that it's dry and greasy at the same time. I do use dry shampoo sometimes but hate the way my hair feels, it also generally needs a wash ad has puke/food in from one of babies. Glamorous.

The excess oil in your hair could be its way of compensating for over-washing which is drying it out. Sometimes sebum production in our skin can go into over-drive in an attempt to regain your skin/hair's natural equilibrium.
Arbonne products contain an active ingredient derived from artichoke leaf was demonstrated to prevent the cuticle scales opening, and preserve the integrity and health of the hair fiber. The cuticle is the hair’s protective layer which surrounds the inner proteins and lipids, so if it is compromised so are the structural components.

Another component, Argan oil, contains Vitamin E and fatty acids, which penetrate the pores of the hair follicles and shaft and enhance the elasticity of the hair as well as promoting growth. It also contains plentiful antioxidants which repair damage.

You'd need to buy it wholesale off a consultant (like me) because it's distributed wholesale to avoid retail markup. Which means it's pretty cheap for what it is.

Neiffer · 24/01/2014 12:52

Ideally how often should you wash your hair? I wonder if I could wash it less...

Guidelines are every 2-3 days. Otherwise depletes natural oils. If you're worried about getting it dirty maybe tie it up under a hat? Sounds obvious, but I'm a big hat person. Endless style variations.

DiamondintheRough · 24/01/2014 13:14

Also try not to use products that aren't meant for your hair type. :)

escargot · 24/01/2014 13:27

jess what does 'preserve the integrity' mean in the case of hair fibre? Hmm

I love Aveda shampoo but it doesn't give any oomph I'm afraid.

ilovepowerhoop · 24/01/2014 13:31

I like the L'Oreal Elvive shampoos/conditioners. Currently using the nutri-gloss one but they also do a Nutri-Gloss Light one for hair prone to greasiness. They are in a pink bottle

DiamondintheRough · 24/01/2014 13:35

it means prevents environmental stressors from penetrating its protective surface.

June2008 · 24/01/2014 14:10

I have similar hair and I use wash and go, v cheap at 99p from wilko's. It also doesn't irritate my scalp as many do. It needs to be the normal one rather than the sport version. If I have more time I use Aveda scalp benefits but for some reason my hair takes much longer to dry!

LittleBabyPigsus · 24/01/2014 14:25

Lol at shampoo marketing pseudoscience.

My recommendations for OP:

-have it cut shorter to get rid of the damaged parts
-go sulfate free
-use much less shampoo - you really don't need much - if washing every day then a blob the size of a 10p piece should be fine, and only lather once
-go to an Afro-Caribbean beauty store (either brick and mortar or online if there's not one in your area), the super conditioning and sulfate-free shampoos are so much cheaper there
-Palmers (the cocoa butter people) shampoo is good, it is rich so you only need a tiny amount of the shampoo and conditioner (I prefer the cocoa butter one but all three varieties are good)
